Amazing resort - perfect for groups of friends & snowboarders 15/03/2015
I spent a fantastic week in Mayrhofen in the first week of March. I travelled with a large group of friends and we couldn’t have asked for a better week. It was snowing for the first half of the holiday and then beautiful blue bird days for the rest. The ski area is extremely varied, the Ahorn side was great while it was snowing as the runs are tree lined and the Penken side has the larger ski area. The Hintertux glacier is a 40 minute bus journey away, and is definitely worth the trip as the snow is fantastic and the mountain views are absolutely stunning. There is no shortage of après in Mayrhofen: If you are up the Ahorn side there is the amazing White Lounge igloo bar. If you are up the Penken side you can choose from the Pilzbar or Elchbar before getting the gondola back down to town. The Icebar at the bottom of the gondola is a popular spot once the lifts have closed, but our favourite was Brück'n Stadl - there is no shortage of Austrian après and dancing on tables here! We had the best time on and off the piste and with so much to still explore in Mayrhofen, I will definitely be back soon!

Fantastic skiing!!! 19/02/2015
Have just finished day 5 of 6 day ski trip - all 5 of them so far in glorious sunshine. With a great ski guide from SMT called Rosie we have probably ski'd at least 20 runs going further and further out. Fantastic variety - really good reds and long easy blues for improvers. Tried two blacks although Hari Kiri closed this afternoon while the air ambulance lifted off a victim! So many runs to choose from. Snow is holding up well but if it keeps being sunny from 8am - 4pm every day and hitting 12 degrees who knows? Only downside is massive queues for main gondola in morning and getting back down and queues of varying degrees at most ski lifts.

Mayrhofen 26/11/2012
Went to Mayrhofen last year and I really have to admit it’s the world class skiing area! Great ski schools, not forgetting about the first children's ski school in the world ‘Riki’s Skikindergarten’. The village itself is just beautiful with its traditional soul and typical Tyrolean architecture. For more advanced skiers I would advise to spend more time on Penken! Don’t miss the pleasure to cruise on Harakiri! There are no two ways about it - it is the steepest slope in Austria! Let the adrenaline pressure to blow your mind away! In fact, Mayrhofen won’t disappoint you either with its impressive off piste ski terrain! And it’s backed up by the Hintertux glacier so don’t worry about the grass underneath your skis! There are plenty of extra activities at the resort and of course the Vans Penken Park and the apres ski just rocks! There is no chance to get bored in Mayrhofen, I’m definitely back this winter.

Can't ski back to resort 10/09/2012
Unfortunately we didn't realise until after we had booked that can't ski back to resort. This was only our second week skiing, with first being in St Anton, but having to get the gondola off the mountain in the evening annoyed us so much that nobody in our group would go back to Mayrhofen but we would all go back to St Anton. We loved St Anton for being able to ski to the Krazy Kangaruh and Mooserwirt when we felt like it and enjoying the apres beers and atmoshphere. Then when we'd had too many beers skiing the short run back to the town. In Mayrhofen you have the issue of the gondola back to the resort closing around 17:30. We would finish skiing, have a couple of drinks and then have to join the masses trying to get off the mountain which took on average at least an hour and just ruined the enjoyment. On a plus point the skiing and town were both great and it was easy enough to get the train to nearby resorts and so if the apres isn't too important for you I would recommend Mayrhofen. Or, if like us, you want to start on the beers and stay on them, not have to miss an hour in the middle to get off the mountain then I would avoid Mayrhofen.

Bottomless Powder 11/01/2012
Just back from Mayrhofen and I can honestly say that Sunday was as good a day's skiing as I've ever had. It was like skiing in the USA with bottomless powder off piste and a nice 6 inches of powder on piste. On Monday the snow was a fraction heavier so it only made my top 5 ever powder days :) In conditions like this you can huck off anything and know you will never get near to hitting the bottom of the snow.
