Ski Holidays in Santa Caterina
Santa Caterina is a quiet and welcoming traditional Italian resort, linked with neighbouring resorts of Bormio, Livigno and Valdidentro as part of the Alta Valtellina ski area, offering 184km of pistes.
The resort has a history with international ski racing, as the venue of the Bormio Alpine World Championships in 2005. It is also known for its spa location from the nineteenth century due to its water springs.

Skiing in Santa Caterina
Santa Caterina offers substantial slopes of Monte Sobretta which are situated mostly above tree line. It is best suited for intermediates and advanced skiers but also has some forested cross country trails lower in resort.
Its ski terrain stretches over 1000m from Mount Sobretta pistes at 2800m to the resort centre at 1738m.
Beginners will like the ski school and the good nursery runs. They may also be slightly daunted by the abundance of reds and blacks. There is a chairlift down from mid station but the lack of easy long runs to progress to may trouble some beginners. Children in ski lessons will learn at the Tapis-roulant area which is a fun way for them to learn the basics.
Intermediates will love the challenging long red runs and experts will be able to enjoy the blacks to their hearts content- as well as some stunning through the trees skiing. 15km of Santa Caterina’s slopes are black runs which demonstrates its ski racing heritage.
Plus there is more to explore, with the possibility of skiing over the border into St Moritz, part of the regional lift pass.
For cross country skiing, the Valtellina track has 5 and 10km cross country ski trails where international and World Cup competitions are hosted. For visitors, there are 8km of trails which are much easier and offer stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Santa Caterina’s north facing slopes hold snow very well throughout the season, even better than nearby Bormio, making it a snow sure resort. The resort also has 12 snow cannons across 28km of its slopes.
Après ski, restaurants and other activities in Santa Caterina
The resort itself is quiet with subdued apres ski, however, which makes it great for families and others wishing to get away from the heaving bars found in some other resorts.
The tourist board organises evening activities in resort, such as moonlit snowshoeing tours for all through the forests of the Stelvio National Park.
