We really liked the Hotel Berghof. The staff were all friendly and helpful, especially reception. The rooms were great and had everything we needed. The hotel was very clean. The food was the best! Huge selection at the buffet breakfast, great buffet salads and dessert and dinner and choice of 3 mains. Only thing I would say is that we would have preferred not to have to buy water with dinner. Hotel was a great location. 10 minutes walk to the Penken gondola, but 2 bus stops right outside the hotel and a 2 minute walk to the train station which was very convenient. Also close to shops and bars etc. Thought the resort was great, we loved the huge ski area and managed to explore every area that the lift pass covered.

Mayrhofen, Hotel Berghof and Iglu - 26/01/2015
Overall

1. Iglu, as always Iglu deliver an excellent customer experience no matter which operator you book with, as an aggregator Iglu add value to the booking and customer service experience. 2. Hotel Berghof, good hotel in the 3/4* bracket, very well located for the Zillertal transport system, ski bus outside for Mayrhofen/Ahorn options and Railway/Bus station 6 minutes away for the rest of the expansive area. The Hotel is clean, well serviced, well appointed and efficiently run. The rooms are to the same standard, with many having balconies. My only criticism would be the standard and variety of the food, the breakfast buffet is excellent, with a whole range of options, it's not possible to complain here. The dinners however do fall short of expectations, other commentators have detailed the shortcomings the 'sameness' of the starters, the uninspired main courses and the very homogenous creamy cake desserts. The dinners need a revamp and an injection of panache as it just feels a bit stale. Although the hotel was excellent overall the menus would lead me to try an alternative hotel option if I were in Mayrhofen again. 3. Mayrhofen, a very intreaguing place, almost bizarre in that it seems to be either full on (Ice Bar and similar) or sleepy, the young party animals are well catered for, with several options from mid afternoon to the next mornings breakfast. Or Hotel bars that are deserted wastelands until the grey clientele take in the almost canned entertainment after dinner for 10 minutes before retiring for the night. We (45 & 55years) are always up for a slightly sophisticated bar, decent 80's music and a Magahrita but despite walking the deserted streets (mid Jan) most nights we couldn't find one. Weird. Not even a Lederhosen Umphah band to be seen Taking the Après to one side Mayrhofen is so well located and accessible for the whole of the Zillertal valley that we didn't actually ski in the Mayrhofen area during six days skiing. Great place to stay but if over 35, take you own entertainment or go in a big group and take over a bar ??
