Fantastic Montsoleil Flaine ski holiday - 17/23/2012
Overall

We cannot fault the Montsoleil Appartments. They were very clean, staff were very helpful and the accommodation perfect for a family vacation. The ski in ski out facility was great, although for the ski beginner it would be better to use the free bus transport as access is from a blue run which from midday at this time of year is a difficult ski (Tourmaline) for those accomplished skiers there is very good access both to and from the slopes. The outdoor pool was great to relax the body after a hard day on the slopes, as we're the sauna, jacuzzi and steam room. You can request a breakfast bakery order for the following day saving a trek down to the local shop. Flaine has some great pistes and access to Grand Massif is a must. Our 3rd skiing trip here. TV has limited programmes in English but for €5'you could get a very recent film to watch in an evening and with free wifi access all week it meant you wouldn’t miss important emails and our teens could keep their Facebook status updated as well as any internet games or browsing they wished to do. Best accommodation we have stayed in and would certainly recommend.

Great ski base - 06/04/2012
Overall

Four of us stayed in one of the apartments with 2 bedrooms on week of 25 February 2012. The apartment was really well kitted out, the beds comfortable and there was loads of space - not sure how it would be in one of the smaller rooms. They've obviously listened to feedback because there's no large deposit any more - just 30 Euros for the ski locker and Wi-Fi now works in every room and is pretty reliable, you just need to ask for your own pass code in reception. Reception staff are all vey friendly and speak good English and can't help enough when it comes to recommending and booking restaurants etc. The free shuttle bus service is fabulous so if you don't fancy walking anywhere, they can take you or pick you up from anywhere local. All the places we went would call the hotel when we wanted picking up so location really is no issue and even then it's probably 10 mins walk down the hill to Flaine Foret and then the tram thing will take you down to Forum - may be 15 mins walk back from Foret up the hill so really no issue unless you're in full ski kit, which you never need to be because the ski in / out is just fabulous. The ski out is really easy and in the morning if you don't fancy skiing down the quite long, busy and can be quite cut up / moguly blue Tourmaline run you can ski past that lift and either ski the red Satan run to Forum or get the travelator up to the nursery area, green practice runs and also a green run down to Forum and more lifts if you want. Getting back it's easy so long as you're happy to take on Tourmaline and if you don't fancy the track to the hotel, you can carry on down Opale and stop where you join the slope in the morning and just pole back the 100 yards or so back to the ski lockers pretty much on the flat so no bother. After a day's skiing the steam room, sauna, jaccuzzi and out door pool are just great and the views over the mountains are stunning, Of course it can get busy but I never had a problem getting in to everything if I was patient and it was a good place to meet people and get some tips on where to go and what to do. Kids can be a problem at times, but not too bad really and it's only fair they have some fun too. As for draw backs, not many really. There's not much to do if you're not skiing or boarding so take some entertainment in case the weather comes in or you get injured. The only free English TV is BBC world and CNN. Outside the hotel, there aren't much in the way of restaurants and they're all quite samey - a lot of pizza and local cheese dishes - not great if you're a vegetarian especially. Prices are also expensive, especially for beer where you'll be lucky to get a pint of standard lager for less than 8 Euros, which is nuts! Room Tip: If you can afford an apartment with more room than you need the extra space was good. Views were excellent from the front but I think they'd be brilliant from any where.
