La Plagne

1. Experience high speeds on an Olympic bobsleigh

Olympic medallist and world champion Bruno Mingeon will whisk you away down a 1,500m descent, reaching speeds of 130km per hour! It was built for the Albertville Olympic Games in 1992 and is still used for international competitions but also open to the public for an unforgettable and thrilling experience.

2. Have an overnight stay in a piste basher

Sounds a little strange, but this ‘Over the Moon’ experience high up in the mountain provides a luxurious cabin-like atmosphere. It features a double bed, two panoramic windows, one overlooking Mont Blanc and the second in the roof for views of the night sky, a spa bath, mini bar, home cinema and TV, heating, a tea and coffee machine, WiFi, LED lights and a complimentary breakfast of Danish pastries the next morning. It also includes a private transfer from your accommodation to Plagne Bellecôte, followed by a ride up the mountain in a working piste basher to your Over the Moon retreat. It’s great for those who love the outdoors, looking for a romantic getaway or for those who just like piste bashers.

3. Ski to Les Arcs

La Plagne and Les Arcs together make up the world’s second largest ski area, Paradiski with 425km of skiable terrain. The two resorts link together by the double-decker Vanoise Express cable car, which is also the world’s largest! As it can transport 200 people, lift queues are minimal meaning getting into Les Arcs is very straightforward. If you’re looking for some challenging skiing, why not try Les Arc’s top black run Aiguille Rouge which goes down 7km into Villaroger. Or if an easier cruisy run is more your thing, try the picturesque Forêt run through the trees above Peisey-Vallandry.

4. Break away from skiing at the Escape Rooms

New for this season and situated in Plagne Bellecôte, the Escape Rooms involve working in a team of 2 to 6 people with the aim to solve its puzzles within an hour in order to escape the room. It’s great fun for the family with a choice of 2 escape rooms, the ‘Hunting the Chuppa Yeti’ which is more family orientated and for over 8 year olds. The tougher one is for over 16 year olds called the ‘The Mont St Jaques Bunker’ and is in a post-apocalyptic style.

5. Shred down the Mont de la Guerre

Considered La Plagne’s best run, this red run is nearly 7km in length and is at its prime after heavy snowfall for an epic powdered piste. It starts off as a narrow pathway and meanders into a wide piste. You’ll have to stop at this point to admire the views over many ski areas and resorts including Courchevel in The Three Valleys, Champagny-en-Vanoise and La Grande Casse. Then as you head further down, the piste steepens where the run turns ‘red’.

Although La Plagne isn’t the best resort if you’re looking to party until the early hours, but it does have a great selection of bars. Come off the piste in the afternoon and happy hour will be in full swing at Scotty’s Bar in La Plagne Centre. It is especially great during spring as it has a large deck right on the slopes so you can sit out in the sun. If you’re looking for live music, hit up the Bar La Mine in Plagne 1800 which is a traditional English pub furnished as a mine-themed tavern.

The Zipwire cascade is located between Belle Plagne and Bellecôte and includes 9 zipwires and a 9 metres jump. The zip wire sits more than 40 metres above the ground and takes about an hour and a half to complete. Or choose the Supertyro for fantastic views of Mont Blanc as you travel down a 600 metre zip line at up to 90 km per hour.
