What will next season look like?

Next Ski Season

Resorts in France have opened their summer skiing programme; Tignes, Val d’Isere and Les Deux Alpes are all currently welcoming skiers to their glaciers as well as starting their summer programme for hiking, mountain biking and more. In Italy, the bars and restaurants have been up and running since the end of May.

The big benefit for us winter sports enthusiasts is that the resorts have the summer to develop their new normal and be in the best position to welcome all the winter visitors. It fills us full of confidence and we’re very excited for next season!

We’ve had very positive conversations with the French Tourist Board, Airports, Lift Management companies and Holiday Operators about skiing next season.

Airports

Vinci Airports, who manage popular airports when flying to the French Alps, are prioritising passenger flows with floor markings to reduce waiting times around other travellers. More intensive cleaning will be taking place throughout the airport, as well as more ventilation in the airport.

To assist with passenger numbers, they are also working with transfer companies to ensure passengers arrive at the right time for their departure, to minimise the volume of people in the terminal at any point.

Each airport they manage has installed over 40 free to use hand sanitation stations. You will also have to wear a mask at all times.

As it stands, in France, you have to complete a form confirming you are COVID free.

Hotels and Chalets

Hand sanitiser dispensers will be placed around properties as well as hotel foyers and you should expect staff to be wearing masks.

Like in restaurants across France, restaurants in hotels are no different with more space being added between tables, to help with this, most hotels will be running at an adjusted capacity to ensure the safety of the staff and customers is maintained.

The service hours at restaurants are being increased to reduce the number of guests in the restaurant at any one time. You can also expect a change to the type of food being served, which will be replaced by individual dishes to minimise contact between guests who are not travelling together. Self-service buffets will have to wait another season!

Ski Lifts and lift passes

Ticket offices are being upgraded to make points of sale more automated, meaning you can pay for your lift passes without having to come into contact with anyone. If you would rather speak with someone, staff will be available to help but will be wearing masks.

When you’re on the mountain lifts, you will have to wear a facemask, unlike when on an aeroplane, you don’t need to wear a surgical mask, so a snood is an acceptable form of face covering. If you aren’t wearing a reusable mask please remember to dispose of your face covering in a responsible manner and don’t ditch by the side of a piste!

At the moment, there are no restrictions on the number of people per gondola, the same laws are applied as with public transport, which is why you need your face (nose and mouth) to be covered.
