A top pick when it comes to French skiing, architecturally striking Avoriaz provides you with high-altitude, snow-sure skiing and instant access into the spectacular Portes du Soleil ski area.
It’s a relatively new purpose-built ski resort nestled at 1,800m (lively Morzine is 800m below) with stylish ski-in/ski-out architecture designed to blend into the natural settings.
Its unique looks and supreme skiing convenience aren’t the only pulls - while predominantly a family resort, Avoriaz also serves up a healthy après and nightlife scene.
Whether you’re keen on slopeside partying before a wobbly ski back home, a late night in a club, or simply somewhere relaxing for a nice drink - we’ve got you covered!

The best bars for mountain partying
- Folie Douce
- Happy Hours
France’s (and maybe the world’s!) most famous après chain, Folie Douce, has had a presence in Avoriaz since 2018, bringing the party almost every day since. It has a really lively atmosphere, with lots of dancing on tables as live DJs, singers and performers entertain the crowd.
You can expect plenty of colour and French flamboyance - but always in a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. Folie Douce translates to “Sweet Madness” in English - and that’s exactly what you can expect.
The party lasts from 3pm to 6pm every day, and you don’t have to worry about rushing to catch the last ski lift home. This is because it’s located right on the edge of town anyway - meaning your accommodation will likely be a quick ski away (remember Avoriaz’s altitude ensures most buildings are ski-in/ski-out!).
Another option worth checking out is Happy Hours. This one’s down at the bottom of the Ardent gondola (just below the Lindarets ski area) and has a live band every day. Wednesdays are when it goes big, with special guest DJs bringing the magic.
Wednesdays are said to be one of the biggest parties in the Alps, and they provide free taxis to Morzine afterwards. The other days are good, too!
Make sure you leave a little early if you’re heading back to Avoriaz though, as you’ll need to go back up the Ardent gondola, and then up the Prolays chairlift back to town.

The best bars for live music and DJs
- Le Shooters
- The Place
- Globe Trotter Cafe Bar
Once Folie has turned its lights off for the night, then the next places on your après trail aren’t too far away.
Le Shooters has a focus on two things - music and shots! It regularly hosts pop-rock concerts, making it one of the best places in the resort to watch live bands. It also puts on lots of DJ sets in between.
It also has more than 50 different types of shot to choose from, meaning you’ll never run out of new ones to taste - there’s your holiday challenge!
The Place, meanwhile, is another great institution which regularly gets in live bands and DJs. It’s open every day from 4pm until 2am, with a happy hour from opening until 6pm.
Also bear in mind, you can get plenty of food in Globe Trotter Cafe Bar during the day, before it transforms after the skiing day ends. Live DJs come in to bring their themed evenings to life, with the party continuing well into night, closing at 2am.
These are just some of the examples of where you can find great live music - you shouldn’t find it tough to find them though, as there should be plenty up there!
The best nightclub for partying ‘til the early hours
- Le Yak
While Le Place could technically count as a club, Le Yak is Avoriaz’s main one. Here, you’ll find lots of electro, pop and hip-hop music which’ll give you the energy to stay up until it closes - 5:30am!
It’s the only place in Avoriaz open beyond 2am and is quite popular for that reason. On that note though, if you're after more choices for late-night clubbing, you might want to check out Morzine, which is 800m down the mountain and just a 15-minute drive away.
Best bar for cheap drinks and live sport (and a generally fun night!)
- Le Tavaillon Bar
Despite its name, this place has an English pub feel to it. It’s located nicely in the town centre and has 11 beers on tap.
During its happy hour, it probably has the cheapest drinks in Avoriaz - and tends to attract a lively British crowd.
There’s also a heated terrace outside to enjoy, while those keen to catch any football and cricket (or any other sport) will likely be covered here on their various TV screens.

Best place for games
- Le Strike Bowling
If you want some time indoors, then you could head to Avoriaz’s bowling alley, Le Strike, which serves cocktails, snacks (and Mont-Blanc beers on tap!) while also having an array of fun games to play.
Beyond knocking the pins down, you can also play pinball, table football, air hockey, pool and loads of other vintage games. Food includes lovely tapas, with chicken and burgers involved, as well as baked Mont d’Or cheese.
As you get deeper into the night though, the resident DJ starts to play his stuff, contributing to a fun vibe all round.
Best bar for something a bit more relaxed
- Festival Bar des Dromonts
- Le Chapka Bar
You can warm up with a nice hot chocolate and a warm plate of food at Le Festival Bar des Dromonts, which is found inside the Hotel des Dromonts. It’s a warm and friendly atmosphere which has a 60s vibe to it - cocktails are also available!
Meanwhile, La Chapka is also found in the centre of town and has a huge sunny terrace with spectacular views of the alpine scenery. It’s a great pick for eating, with burgers, pizzas and tapas among its best options.
Beyond that though, there is also some music, and it’s got a table football and pool table to enjoy. Live sports are shown here as well.
Where to stay if you want to be near Avoriaz's après hotspots
Avoriaz is quite a small resort anyway, so wherever you choose to stay won’t be too far from the centre of town.
Among the hotels in Avoriaz, you wouldn’t be making a mistake staying in the all-inclusive Les Cimes du Soleil, while the Hotel des Dromonts has a strong half board offering.
If you’re looking for something cheaper, why not look at the Saskia Falaise Apartments. Particularly well-priced is the Residence Atria Crozats - although you can check all the apartments in Avoriaz for a better idea.
Or check out the range of grand and comfortable chalets in Avoriaz. The compact Chalet Kipnuk is good for small groups, or large groups could try the 14-bed Chalet Beluga for a bit of slopeside luxury.
