FATMAP: The New Ultra High Resolution 3D Ski App

The new 3D skiing app, FATMAP is now available to download on iOS and Android. FATMAP allows you to view ski resorts in superb detail, track your runs with GPS and to find the best lines on and off piste.

One of the best features about the app is the awesome virtual reality 3D fly-throughs which will help you plan and experience your ski route before heading out, plus follow the lines easily using the GPS enabled navigation.

This app is set to revolutionise skiing or snowboarding by offering unique features that have never been seen before on a ski app. The ultra-high resolution 3D ski mapping technology will redefine skiers navigation. This unbelievable level of detail and the abilitly to move around the 3D world will change how users plan a day out on the slopes, both on and off the piste.

The app will first detail Chamonix, Verbier and Zermatt, with Espace Killy (Tignes and Val d’Isere) and Paradiski (La Plagne and Les Arcs) coming soon.

There are 2 versions of FATMAP – PISTE and FREERIDE, both offer high-res 3D piste mapping, detailed route descriptions, 3D fly throughs, interactive resort and conditions info, real time location sharing, plus ski tracking and stats. In addition, the FREERIDE version also details off-piste routes giving profile information and 3D fly throughs, gradient heat mapping, altitude segmentation, crevasse zones and avalanche zones so skiers can make better-informed decisions and explore safely.

More resorts including Espace Killy and Paradiski and an app version for Android and Windows phones will be available soon.

About FATMAP

FATMAP is based on the simple principle - Know more. Do more. They believe that uncertainty stops us from pushing our limits and finding out who we truly are. This belief is what drives every decision they make. It's about empowering skiers with the knowledge and tools to explore further, safely.

The team are an organisation of mountain guides, ski mountaineers and climbers based in the UK and French Alps. They know and understand mountains and the safety and navigation challenges they present for all mountain users, especially off-piste skiers. They are also working with national organisations, including the British Mountain Guides and mountain rescue professionals to test FATMAP and ensure it delivers the very best and up-to-date information needed by the mountain user.

FATMAP is launching for ski areas in February 2015 with hiking, trail running, mountain biking and more to follow later in the year.
