Dreaming Of A White Christmas

Dreaming Of A White Christmas

The good news is it's still snowing, the better news is there are a few days of blue skies and sunshine on their way, so you can make the most of the amazing pistes and powder on offer across the Alps.

North America is very much playing catch-up with the Alps right now. Though they started the season well, France and Switzerland have had an incredible couple of weeks of snow. California boasts the best snow over the next five days, with Squaw Valley forecast 75cm, Heavenly 67cm, Northstar 61cm and Mammoth 47cm. Whistler is expecting 34cm of pow, while Jackson Hole and Apsen are looking at ~20cm of fresh snow.

France is continuing its amazing start to the season. I love the Alps, but right now I'd give anything to be spending the next couple of weeks in the Haute Savoie, Tarantaise or Oisan valley. This week brings another generous dusting of pow wow wow, with a few spells on sunshine and freezing levels below 300m. I hope Rudolf remembers his moon boots!

  • Alpe d'Huez 37cm
  • Avoriaz 34cm
  • Courchevel 29cm
  • La Plagne 28cm
  • Les Arcs 28cm
  • Meribel 31cm
  • Morzine 34cm
  • Tignes 24cm
  • Val d'Isere 23cm

Austria is in for some good snow, sunshine and Arctic conditions this week too. With the freezing level again under 300m and minimum temperatures in resort hitting as low as -25° C.

  • Ishcgl 24cm
  • Lech 24cm
  • Kitzbuhel 31cm
  • Maryhofen 22cm
  • Obergurgl 23cm
  • Saalbach 34cm
  • Solden 25cm
  • Soll 30cm
  • St. Anton 24cm
  • Zell am See cm

Switzerland is also enjoying a fine start to the season. Last season I was lucky enough to be enjoying powder in Grimentz & Zinal around this time and anyone heading to Valais or Graubünden this Christmas you are in for a great time. An even smattering of snow and sunshine should make for a wonderfully white Christmas.

  • Crans Montana 31cm
  • Davos 26cm
  • Engelberg 28cm
  • Klosters 25cm
  • Nendaz 32cm
  • Saas Fee 24cm
  • St. Moritz 24cm
  • Verbier 33cm
  • Wengen 22cm
  • Zermatt 28cm

You'll all be skiing in a white Christmas, just like the ones you used to know...

Merry Christmas from The Snowman
