Follow The Snow Covered Roads

As you may have seen in The Times and the Daily Mail last night this morning, due to the large amount of snow, guests staying in the luxury resort of Ischgl were forced to stay in the resort overnight.

Due to the large amounts of snow and concerns of an unstable snowpack near to the roads, Police closed the access into the resort overnight as a precaution, sending people back to their hotels and accommodation. Breaking news this morning: According to first hand reports from staff in resort, the main access road has now opened this morning, meaning that guests waiting to go home since the weekend are finally on their way back to UK.

ischgl news
Ischgl's village yesterday.

Ischgl has already received 5.5m of snow this season, which almost surpasses the total snowfall from last winter already, meanning the skiing at the moment is phenomenal — just make sure to stay on the piste.

The resort's Security des Pistes have worked to removed the avalanche risks from the entry to the resort, which usually consists of setting off controlled avalanches to remove the excess snow, then sending in the snow ploughs to remove any snow that may have covered sections of the road.

With resorts finally catching up with and managing the record amounts of snow, the week of stunning sunshine that is forecast throughout the Alps and the slopes in the best condition they have seen for years, this year could prove to be one of the greatest ever on record for skiing. So pack your favourite skis, goggles and sun block and get yourself out there while the mountains approach their glorious best!
