French resorts do well in readers' awards

French resorts do well in readers' awards Ski holidays in Val D'Isere have been praised in a newspaper travel awards, with readers of the Telegraph naming the French resort the best in the world.

The Telegraph Travel Awards 2007 produced a top three in the Best Ski Resort category, with readers of the Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph voting across a range of other categories too.

Val D'Isere was followed in second place by ski holidays in Meribel, another French resort. Located in the centre of Les 3 Vallees, Meribel and neighbours Courchevel and Val Thorens have been popular for a long time.

In third position in the Best Ski Resort rankings were ski holidays in Whistler. The resort boasts the most terrain of any ski location in North America.

The newspaper also noticed a change in the popularity of certain resorts since the awards began almost a decade ago.

"In 1998, the US resorts of Vail and Breckenridge were firm fixtures in your top five. Today, not one US resort makes the shortlist."

Whistler opened in mid-November this year and Val d'Isere welcomed skiers from December 1st. Meribel's season is due to start on Saturday December 8th.
