The Stars of Team GB Back Snowsport England’s Go Ski Go Board Campaign

The Stars of Team GB Back Snowsport England’s Go Ski Go Board Campaign Snowsport England have announced that Team GB snowboard superstar Jamie Nicholls will complete the big name line up of ambassadors for their national participation campaign, Go Ski Go Board.

Snowsport England’s 30 Days of Snowsport has continued to attract big numbers across the country with many visitors trying skiing and snowboarding for the first time.

Already on the line up are Aimee Fuller (Snowboard Slopestyle), Katie Summerhayes (Ski Slopestyle), Chemmy Alcott (Alpine Skiing – now retired), Darcie Mead (Alpine Skiing), James Machon (Ski Halfpipe) and Peter Speight (Ski Halfpipe).

The Go Ski Go Board campaign was launched by Snowsport England last year to introduce people to skiing and snowboarding and to re-engage those that having been on the slopes in a while. In it’s first year of launch 10, 000 people have participated in the sessions across the country.

After the excitement of Sochi and the increase in participation at snowdomes, Snowsport England launched the next stage of the campaign, Go Race Go Freestyle. Now people have the chance to mirror the skills of the Team GB stars by taking part in freestyle and race sessions, with the potential to allow people to get into competitive snowsports.

We were at the Go Race Go Freestyle launch in September.

Jamie Nicholls (featured in the photo above), who started his snowboarding career on the slopes of Halifax Ski and Snowboard Centre and more recently at The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, said of the campaign: “Following Sochi 2014, people just seemed to go crazy for snowboarding. It was mind blowing how many people came up to me and said ‘I want to try that. What you guys do is amazing.’ I really want to see more people get into snowboarding, and skiing, which is why I wanted to be involved with the GO SKI GO BOARD campaign. It will hopefully mean people can see a clear way to start snowboarding or skiing, and give it a go at their local slope.”

www.goskigoboard.org.uk lists sessions for a variety of levels in skiing, snowboarding and also specifically in freestyle and racing, with people able to find a session, slope or club close to them using the ‘Find my nearest’ search tool.
