New gondola & 2 new chairlifts
Vail resorts have invested CAD$66 million on 3 new ski lift in the heart of Whistler Blackcomb for winter 2018/19. The plan is the largest single-year capital investment program in the resort’s history.
A new 10 person gondola is being built at Blackcomb will deliver guests straight to the Peak 2 Peak for faster and easier access to the Whistler side of the mountain. The new gondola will replace the Wizard and Solar chairlifts offering a more comfortable and weather protected experience. It is expected to represent a 47-percent capacity increase and move 4,000 people per hour, the highest capacity in North America.
The Catskinner chairlift on the Blackcomb side will be upgraded to a high speed quad. The faster upload times will benefit skiers and snowboarders going to the park and learning zone.
The Emerald Express chairlift at Whistler will be upgraded to a high speed six seater cutting wait times in the Family Ski Zone. The new lift will increase uphill capacity by 29%.
This investment accelerates the original redevelopment plans, named Renaissance, with a focus on the heart of the resort and may defer the plans of the new water park. Lift pass prices will not be increased because of these upgrades.
