What can you say about Val D'Isere that hasn't been said already? It's one of the best ski resorts in the Alps: a huge ski area, guaranteed snow on the glaciers, and fantastic apres ski (make sure you visit La Folie Douce at least once). So that's Val, but what about Chalet Bonneval? It's situated in Le Fornet which is pretty little village 15 mins walk (5 min bus ride) beyond Val. You can see ski in and out of Le Fornet although the slopes do suffer if there's a lack of snow. Our host was an excellent cook and we had fantastic food every night; plus there was the added bonus of tea and cake every afternoon as you roll of the slopes. All in all, a great holiday and a great chalet. If it wasn't for my desire to see as many different chalets in val as possible - i'd go back.

Fantastic Chalet - 24/02/2015
Overall

Just returned from a week in Chalet Bonneval. The Chalet was fantastic, it is in a quite little Hamlet called Fornet, with a regular bus servise (every 5 minutes) into Val D'Isere Centre and also its own cable car up to the slopes of Fornet. The Chalet had four bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities. We were a family of 11 people so we occupied the whole chalet (having had an extra bed added to accomodate an add on). Firstly our Chalet Host Guy was amazing, he was very friendly from day one and more to the point his cooking was brilliant. Every night he cooked us a delicious 4 course meal (everything cooked from scratch in our Chalet kitchen) starting with canopes and finishing with a lovely desert. He was very accomodating as certain members of our party were a little fussy and he cooked them chicken if the planned meal was not to their liking. He also cooked bacon egg sausage and beans every morning, in addition to fresh bread, crossoints and cheese/ham, also cereal and fruit juice. Perfect start to the day.We got so attached to him that he became part of our family and we would have liked to take him home with us. The Chalet was plenty big enough, my only criticism would be that there could be more comfy seating areas, there is a large sofa area which probably accomodated 6 people but bearning in mind the chalet was for 10 (and we were 11) often 5 of us had to sit in the hard dining chairs. After skiing all day you all need a comfy settee to sit on. The living area is easily big enough to accomodate more settee space, they just need to move a cupboard. The skiing is Fornet/Val Disere was fantastic, we had 5 days of wall to wall sunshine and then snow on the last day, which the resort needed. The skiing back into Val DIsere/Fornet is hard but you do not need to ski back, you can catch a lift into Val DIsers and then the local bus service back into Fornet Village. I skiied back into the village for two days then decided that it was hard work for me at the end of a long days skiing so the ladies of the group took the lift back to the chalet whilst the hard core men skiied back. You can ski direct to the Chalet by going a little off piste right back to the garage door. There is a lift in Fornet up to some lovely slopes, but you have a little walk from the chalet to the cable car centre, this is not far but it is uphill and there are a few steps to climb which is not good in ski boots. All in all we had a fabulous time, thanks to Guy and the weather and would definitely recommend this to a friend.

An amazing stay in Le Fornet - 15/01/2019
Overall

We have just come back from a brilliant stay in Chalet Bonneval, Le Fornet, Val D'Isere. The chalet is lovely - the pictures do not do it justice. Our chalet host Joe was absolutely outstanding - making excellent quality food and keeping us entertained. We really missed him on his days off - Total Ski have unfortunately taken the decision to have two non-catered days this year, which is a tad disappointing. Le Fornet is on the periphery of Val - but is connected by an excellent free bus service which runs regularly until the early hours. You can also ski directly from Le Fornet - about a 7 minute walk from the chalet. I would highly recommend staying here - and hope you are lucky to get someone as great as Joe as your chalet host!
