Motorway Skiing extravaganza - 27/02/2020
Overall

Plenty of pistes for those who like on-piste skiing. Very very busy during the half term week, with some ferocious queues at Bellecote and Plagne Centre. We took this for a change from our usual much smalkler resort which has excellent off-piste and much fewer lifts and runs. Although interesting, we will be returning to our smaller, quietrer resort of choice next year

Val Thorens review - 07/04/2015
Overall

Great skiing. However resort is high -- 2300m base station! -- so don't be surprised if you are in cloud or flat light a lot. Val Chaviere hotel very good -- staff friendly. EU style lightbulbs make some rooms a bit dim. Excellent food. Location on piste is superb for walk in/out skiing. At Plein Sud, if you have young children steer clear of the on-piste Folie Douce bar in the later afternoon, which tends to have very loud dance music led by "DJs" who use a lot of really foul language. At 120 decibels it is hard to pretend you didn't hear the repeated obscenities!

Amazing Food!! - 09/02/2015
Overall

Val Thorens and the 3 valleys are a great resort to go to and ski/board, loads of runs of different difficulty levels and more than enough for a weeks holiday in the mountains. We found the hotel to be very comfortable, the beds are soft, the rooms are clean, and the views out of the window are amazing. The breakfast is great, you have a lot of choice, and although it is the same choice every day there are enough different items so that you could potentially have a different breakfast each day. The dinner is fantastic, a 5 course meal every evening, the first one being soup, and the last 2 being a cheese course and a desert course. There wasn't any dish I was served that I didn't like, and 1 evening they do a fondue night (either cheese fondue with bread or meat fondue with hot oil and fries) which was a great change. I would highly recommend both the resort and the hotel, and would definitely stay there again.

Great Location - 10/01/2015
Overall

This hotel is in a great ski-in/out location with easy access to a great selection of lifts that spread in all directions. The room we had was a decent size with two single beds (pushed together) and two bunk beds in the corridor. As there was only two of using the room this extra space was very useful but it would be extremely cramped if there were actually 4 people in the room. The decor and carpets need updating but there are plenty of hooks for hanging things up. The bathroom (with a small bath and shower) and the separate toilet were very good looked like fairly recent renovations. We weren't really happy with the heating system in the room which tended to be too hot in the morning and too cold at night. The public spaces could also do with updating. Our dining table (allocated for the whole week) was tiny and we could barely get our knees under it to sit properly. The lounge area was fine though - although the furniture was tired it was adequate. The biggest let down for me was the restaurant. I had read good reports about the food and was looking forward to our meals but they were very disappointing. There is no choice at all with the starter/main (take it or leave it) and the portions were on the small side (thinnest slice of cheese imaginable with the 'cheese course') although there was a dessert buffet a couple of nights. To add to this, the service was dire and incredibly slow. I don't know if it was the kitchen or the waiter (who did seem to have a LOT of tables to deal with) but the food took ages to be served with most meals taking around two hours or more! Overall, the hotel was just about okay.

perfect location - 28/01/2014
Overall

Just returned from a fantastic holiday at Val Thorens, hotel is in the best location 100% ski to and from door, rooms were very tidy and cleaned daily. We stayed in room 310 with great views, staff are very friendly and helpful, easy walk to resort center, with all the ski hire shops, would go back tomorrow.
