Large but slightly shabby apartment - 12/03/2019
Overall

The apartment was generous in size with plenty of space for the number of people staying and with plenty of storage space for all of the ski equipment. The ski lockers provided were far too small to store all our equipment in and were inconvenient to access but this wasn't a big problem as there was plenty of space in the apartment. The apartment was shabby with badly stained carpets, broken curtains and furniture and the kitchen was poorly equipped however the apartment, bedding and towels were cleaned to a good standard. Check-in was slightly chaotic and out interactions with the reception staff were generally confusing and unhelpful.

First things first. The service from Iglu Ski was impeccable; friendly, helpful and prompt. That said, it eventually became clear that they weren't the final providers of the holiday, and so any criticisms that I might have cannot be directed at them. However, I don't have any criticisms (the apartment was basic, noisy and very badly appointed; despite telling the management twice that the kettle and microwave didn't work nothing was done, but none of that is the fault of Iglu or Crystal). However, my son became very unwell with a terrible outbreak of shingles in his eye and forehead. initially the pharmacist thought it was an allergic reaction but it got worse and worse and eventually he was in a great deal of pain. Tessa and Imogen, the Crystal reps, could not have been more helpful; Tessa in particular, who spoke Italian like a native, was able to translate when a) we had to visit the doctor about twenty minutes away and then b) when we had to go to Aosta Hospital. What would have been a nightmare of communication failure turned out to be merely a nightmare of spending time in a foreign hospital. Even though it was her time off, Tessa phoned several times to ensure that we were okay, and helped with us to ensure that we had a taxi back to the resort quite late at night. She turned out to be a total star, and we are very much in her debt.

Just got back after staying in the Planinbel. Great time, great snow, great ski area. It is very very good for learners. Easy area right at he bottom with 3 magic carpets. Easy area to move onto at Le Suches gondola. Whole area is best suited to intermediates. Loved the resort, not noisy and chavish. Good value for money and we took a day trip to Courmayeur which was really nice. Some great runs over there. Also skied over to France, pretty good unless you are a boarder, drag lift from hell. Also a bit icy due to high winds. If you want a good value hols in a good resort that is relaxed at a decent price it is hard to see how this place can be beaten. 10/10 from me.

Perfect location! - 02/10/2011

If you want clean and comfortable, as close to the slopes as you can get, then Planibel apartments are for you. We hired two apartments for 2 large family groups, and were very happy. The skiing is fantastic, we had a mixture of abilities, and you can ski for miles and miles, stopping by mountain lodges for a well-earned coffee-break. Nightlife is extremely limited in this resort, so you'll have to make your own fun in the apartments. Supermarket closeby/ski hire shop on doorstep, it really couldn't be any more convenient. No lift queues & brilliant intermediate skiing, this resort is hard to beat.

We had been to La Thuile before, 6 years ago. That was when we first put skis on our feet. Consequently we didn't see much of the scenery as we were too busy trying to stay upright! This time however we had a few miles under foot. The journey there was good. We drove this time. It took about 8 hours from Dunkirk. Driving in 2 hours stints. The hotel reception was fantastic. The porter let us take our car into the underground carpark to unload it there right below our apartment. The apartment was spacious. We had booked a 6 berth but I'm sure it was an 8 berth. There were 2/3 bedrooms and two bathrooms, a small kitchen and adequate lounge area. We did cater for 8 people when we had the rest of our gathering around. The skiing area is fantastic! You take the gondola or chair to the top. From there the area opens out to a vast expanse of ski runs. Near to the gondola station are blue runs. Take the 4 man chair to the top and it gets you to the red runs and even lets you ski to La Rosier in France. There are a number of small restaurants dotted about the slopes to cater for every need. The one that we all particularly like was the Maison de Neige on red 7. The service and food there were superb. If you are a beginner or low intermediate skier I would recommend this resort. It is not too difficult an area to get about. Even some of the black runs were more like reds! The Après Ski was almost not existent! We always ended up at the cafe/bar at the bottom of the gondola station. The nightlife is the same. There are only 3 bars in the near vicinity. However go to the old town and there are more to choose from.
