Modern meets traditional at the Hotel Bristol, a popular pick on the edge of Bad Gastein. The rooms have a minimalist look, with pictures of mountains and wicker flower vases to catch your eye. It’s the same story in the dining room, which has white walls and big windows to keep things bright and airy. The service is classic Austrian though – friendly and down-to-earth from the moment you arrive.
In the mornings, getting to the slopes is simple. Just step outside and get on the free ski bus for a 3-minute ride to the Stubnerkogel gondola. And if you fancy a night out, you’re 10 minutes’ walk from the resort centre.
You don’t have to go far to find some après action. The hotel’s Stazione Alpe-Adria bar serves up all kinds of tipples, from cocktails to beers, with regular live bands and DJ nights to add music to the mix. Or if low-key’s more your style, you can play pool or some board games in the lounge.
On the food front, the breakfast buffet serves up sausage, bacon and beans alongside Continental picks like pastries and fruit. Then to refuel you post-ski, you’ve got a 3-course evening meal with a choice of mains.
