There are a number of varied ski areas in the Montafon Valley, with everything from family fun slopes to powder runs.
Montafon ski area boasts 295km of piste, shared between different ski resorts dotted along a 37km-long valley. Silvretta Montafon has the most terrain, with plenty of wide blues and reds where intermediates can rack up the miles. And for family ski days, the quiet slopes in the Golm area really hit the spot.
As for where to stay, Golm is a firm favourite for families thanks to its laid-back atmosphere and collection of kid-friendly activities. Or go for Schruns-Tschagguns if you like the sound of a pedestrianised market town filled with low-key bars and local shops and want to be closet to the bigger Silvretta-Montafon ski area.
When you're not skiing why not strap on snowshoes for a wintery wander to a mountain hut, or let gravity do the work and whizz downhill on a toboggan instead. And for even more high-speed thrills, definitely try the alpine coaster – a kind of sledge on rails where you’ll reach speeds of up to 40km/h.
