Ski Holidays in Valchiavenna, Italy
The Valchiavenna, Madesimo – Campodolcino Ski Area offers skiing enthusiasts 60 km of piste, 35 km of which have programmed artificial snow facilities. The Ski Area starts at Madesimo, 1550 m in altitude, from where most of the uphill transport leaves and continues up to the Pizzo Groppera at 3000 m and into the Val di Lei.
The uphill transport system, renewed over the last few years, has 9 chairlifts, mostly four-seater with an automatic hooking system to which a brand new six-seater chairlift and an eight-place gondola have been added. The Cima Sole-Groppera cable car completes the picture. Those coming to ski in the Valle Spluga can take advantage of the service provided by the underground funicular railway that, in five minutes, connects Campodolcino (1082 m) to the pistes at Motta (1721 m). It is one of the most modern and innovative in Europe and, in only a few minutes, rises at least 638 m running through a tunnel carved out of the rock.
