Skiing in Sälen Hundfjället
Sälen Hundfjället is a snow-sure resort in Sweden which is very popular with young families and beginners. Just a 15-minute (if that!) coach transfer from the Scandinavian Mountains Airport, it’s known for its convenience.
Also convenient is its ski-in/ski-out accommodation, with rapid access to both of the resort’s modern 8-person chairlifts which will whizz you up in no time. One of these is heated with a bubble, while there are also 3 other chairlifts, and 35 drag lifts.
There are plenty of peaceful, rolling slopes which offer ideal practice for youngsters and those finding their feet. Youngsters in particular will enjoy the tree-lined ‘Trollskogen’ fun-run, as well as a nice nursery area near town, and plenty of greens and blues. There are plenty of slow button lifts and conveyor belts for the little ones.
Once these areas have been mastered, you can move onto the other side of Hundfjället, which is packed with reds. Advanced skiers, meanwhile, can tackle ‘The Wall’, which is known as Sweden’s second steepest slope, and is one of a number of blacks in the area.
A simple drag lift also connects Hundfjället with Tandådalen, expanding the number of slopes for you to explore to 51 overall.
Hundfjället is close to Kläppen, Stäten and Lindvallen, which are all part of the same Sälen mountain range.
This venue is cosy inside, but has a huge outdoor area, where live music blasts out most days, and a party is there to be had.
Hundfjället Bar and Grill is another slopeside venue to be explored, with après-ski starting in the early afternoon.
Hundfjället is a quiet village - for non-ski activities, you should head to nearby Lindvallen, which is a 15-minute drive away.
Here, there are more restaurants and cafes, as well as Experium - a complex with an aqua park, bowling alley, sauna and spa.

Hundfjället isn’t a town for partying, so if your holiday will revolve around lively après, we’d recommend elsewhere. That being said, you can still go for a sing and dance at the Tandådalens Wärdshus, which is at the base station on the Tandådalen side at 660m.This venue is cosy inside, but has a huge outdoor area, where live music blasts out most days, and a party is there to be had.
