The canton of Uri is located in central Switzerland between Lake Lucerne in the north and the Gotthard Pass in the south. The destination Andermatt is located at almost 1500m in the south of the canton, about 1.45 hours by car from Zurich, and is ideal for excursions into the mountains of the cantons of Uri, Graubuenden and Valais. The historic building of the Hotel Sonne is located in the old town center of Andermatt, the main town of the Urseren Valley with the Andermatt-Sedrun ski area. The municipality with around 1500 inhabitants is located on the Reuss and extends up to the Oberalp Pass, which forms the canton border with Graubuenden. In the immediate vicinity of the hotel is the train station of the Glacier Express, which runs from here in both directions - Zermatt and St. Moritz. It is only a short hike to the famous Teufelsbruecke over the Schoellenen.
