After a few weeks with less snow then we'd like in Europe, Mother Nature has decided that snow topped resorts are much more romantic on Valentine's day, with snow throughout the French Alps forecast for Monday.
I must admit I am bored of this, though maybe through jealousy, as Whistler is again getting bucket loads of snow, we're talking nearly 180cm in 6 days, which is amazing if you're in British Columbia and frustrating if you're in Wimbledon! Canada is having a great weekend with Kicking Horse boasting 53cm of powder and both Kimberley and Panorama boasting around 35cm of snowfall.
Europe is definitely looking on the up again. If you are looking for a last minute deal you'll want to consider Formigal, Cervinia and Saas Fee this weekend. Spain's number one resort has spent millions on developing its lift system and improving it's hotels and its 140km of piste will be getting 25cm starting Monday, which is perfect for the Sunday flights! Saas Fee and Zermatt in Switzerland will be benefitting from 18cm of snow, so combined with the glaciers they are mouth watering prospects for next week. If Italy is more your thing head to the other side of the Matterhorn and take advantage of the 18cm top-up hitting Cervinia's slopes.
For the French resorts lovers, such as myself, a welcome week of snow is on the cards with up to 10cm falling in our favourite resorts. Sunny Alpe d'huez is into double figures as are the tree lined resorts of Serre Chevalier and Risoul. Britain's most popular resorts Val d'Isere, Meribel and Les Arcs will all be getting 7cm of snow, but with cold temperatures you can expect the snow cannons to top this up considerably.
Let's hope Mother nature will continue to wave her wand and turn this promising snow into a pre-half-term snow storm. The resorts are managing the slopes incredibly well but some of nature's finest white stuff is always welcome.
See you on the slopes.
