Skiing in Mayrhofen

The ski area is large, varied and high. The terrain offers a good mix of cruisers and steeps and is well laid out for beginner skiers around the mid station of the Finkenberg. For advanced skiers there is the Harakiri piste, the steepest groomed slope in Austria, as well as some impressive off piste ski terrain. On the otherside of the valley is the Ahorn ski area which offer ski terrain best suited to beginners. There is now a new cable car to the Ahorn area and the fast gondola up to the Penken, the ski region is connected up to the Finkenberg, Rastkogel and Eggalm ski areas, belonging to the extensive Zillertal ski area. 

The Mayrhofen ski area is impressive, one of the best in Austria and is backed up by the nearby Hintertux glacier which offers year round skiing and a snow guarantee for early or late ski holidays in Mayrhofen.  For the more adventurous skier there are 22km of black runs including the steepest run in Austria, the infamous Hara Kiri with a 78% gradient.
