Long-range weather forecasters are expecting an early winter in 2011 with snow already forecast in October for the UK.
Temperatures are expected to plummet over the next three months, and though this may seem like bad news to readers of the Daily Mail, this is great news for British skiers and snowboarders. We could be sledging down the hills of Brockwell Park and Hampsted Heath before we know it.
The drop in temperature and the low-pressure weather systems will hopefully mean a good start to the winter season throughout Europe. In the last week we have already seen up to 40cm fall in some of the Alp's glacial resorts and if we are really lucky we may even get a few pre-winter turns in at one of Scotland's resorts, or the nearest big hill we can bothered to hike.
James Madden, of Exacta Weather, said: "I expect to see the first signs of some moderate to heavy snowfalls as early as October or November in certain parts of the UK. I expect December, January and February to experience below-average temperatures, with the heaviest snowfall occurring within the time frame of November to January across many parts of the UK."
Netweather forecaster Paul Michaelwaite said:"Over the past four years November snow has not been rare at all, and with temperatures below the average there is the chance of some widespread falls."
Last winter saw epic levels in snow in North America and hopefully this early weather warning will translate into a huge European season and well as more great snow across the pond. Bring on the powder!
