Another week passes by and we are finally entering December, the month where the ski season officially begins. October and November offered a pretty good pre-season with many resorts regularly receiving good snow and December looks to be getting even better.
Over the next week resorts from Spain's Formigal and the French resort of Alpe d'Huez to Canada's Whistler are all expecting a good 30cm+ of fresh white snow. With many resort opening over the next two weeks and some of the altitude destinations already offering a reduced lift service, this year really is gearing up to being a cracking winter.
France is continuing on with its fantastic start with virtually every resort set to receive 20-30cm of snow. The Southern Alps resort of ALpe D'Huez, Les Deux Alpes and St. Sorlin are leading the way with the Three Valleys, Milky Way, Paradiski and Portes Du Soleil all set to receive a respectful dusting of powder.
The increasingly popular Spanish resort of Formigal has been receiving Whistler-esque snowfall and this week is expecting a decent 35cm of snow, not bad for a resort that has seen a huge redevelopment over the past five years!
As with recent weeks Whistler is again just about leading the snowfall league with 36cm and other North American resorts looking forward to this week's snow storm are Jackson Hole with 19cm and Aspen Snowmass with 13cm.
Italy is also set for a light top-up as conditions improve across the Milky Way and Dolomite ski areas with Claviere, Sansicario, Bardonecchia and Canazei all looking forward to 20cm of pow. Austria will also be benefitting from some good December conditions, Zell am See is boasting a nice 15cm, as are Bad Gastein and Hinterglemm.
Northumbria may not have enjoyed the 30cm of snow they received this weekend and the locals of London are expected to moan about the light snow expected here over the next couple of days, either because they can't get to work, or because they can!
