Is Knee Deep Pow Arriving Again?

Is Knee Deep Pow Arriving Again?

After one of the snowiest ever starts to the season and during a winter that has offered the best conditions since the ‘60s, the last few weeks have seen some respite from the white stuff, with a smattering of sunshine across the Alps.

Even with the sunshine, mother nature has still managed to keep the slopes pristine with a few centimetres of fresh snow falling here and there. This week we saw around half a metre of snow falling in a day over in Davos & Klosters in Switzerland and Mayrhofen in Austria, to name a few.

This weekend is looking to continue the recent form, with bright sunshine today and Saturday, with crisp cold air, followed by a day of snow on Sunday. There is also some light snowfall expected early next week.

Austria received the best snow during the week and on Sunday is set to topple the French again. Obergurgl and Kitzbuhel are expecting around 10cm of fresh snow, while St. Anton, Lech, Mayrhofen and Ischgl should all receive around 8cm of fresh snow. So knee deep powder skiing in on the cards first thing Monday morning!

is knee deep pow arriving again

France and Switzerland are set for similar conditions, with Avoriaz, Morzine, Saas Fee and Zermatt all expecting around 7cm of fresh snow. Verbier, Courchevel, Val d’Isere, Les Arcs and Meribel are also set for fresh snow over the weekend, though with 3cm forecast it will be ankle deep powder — if you can call ankle deep snow powder — on offer.

Italy is also set for a little dusting on Sunday, with sunny days either side. Arabba, Cervinia and Selva should all benefit from 6cm of fresh snow, while Sestriere and Sauze d’Oulx should also see a couple of centimetres of new snow.

Across the pond and there is a little more snow on the way, but we won’t begrudge them for it, as they are still playing catch up.

Whistler is another another fantastic season, almost as good as last year, and looks set for another 22cm+ of powder over the weekend. Elsewhere in British Columbia, Kicking Horse is also having a cracking season, with 16cm due to arrive over the weekend. Banff and Lake Louise are also set for a light dusting of snow during the next day or so.

In the US, Colorado is having a great month for snow. The likes of Aspen, Beaver Creek, Steamboat and Vail are all expecting snowfall up to the 15cm mark, so more knee deep powder to play in.

So plenty more sunshine to play with, just enough powder to lean back on your skis and half term coming to an end, the slopes are looking pretty attractive right now.

Just a shame this snowman needs a new knee this winter and there hasn’t been enough snow in London to get fixed up in time!
