US announces freestyle team for new season Tignes.

The US team, which consists of 16 women and 14 men, contains nine athletes that are Olympians and includes reigning moguls world champions Nate Roberts and Hannah Kearney and former Olympic medallist Shannon Bahrke.

"These athletes are fantastic people with a lot of character to go with their talent," said Polly-Jo Clark, programme director.

"It's fun to be a part of it and we're expecting some intense competition for the World Cup spots and for the World Championships team in January. Some will need to gain experience on the World Cup and everything that comes with it. And the veterans know exactly what it takes ? it's time to do it."

The first moguls competition of the season will take place in mid-December, at the Tignes resort in France.

January 23rd to the 28th will see the US team take part in the Freestyle World Championships, in Italy.

Tignes to reopen end of September
Those familiar with a ski holiday in Tignes will know that this means fresh powder snow skiing, great facilities and pistes for family holidays.

A premier European ski holiday destination, Tignes is located in the Espace Killy ski area, which boasts 300 kms of pistes including a wide selection of green and blue beginner runs, intermediate reds and more difficult black runs.

Tignes is due to reopen on September 29th with 130 hectares of permanent ice and 20 kms of piste.

"The resort's snowpark (750 m by 250 m) is the place for freestylers to hang out, with bumps and jumps for everyone and a cool zone," Tignes reports.

European resorts 'start opening pistes' European ski holidays this year.

According to the Ski Club of Great Britain, European ski resort are not the only ones to benefit from a fresh smattering of snow, with those on North America ski holidays also looking set to benefit from new snow falls.

Those taking ski holidays in Zermatt as well as those on Tignes ski holidays and ski holidays in Val Thorens will be happy to know that snow falls have resulted in slopes being opened for action.

The Ski Club of Great Britain notes that temperatures have begun to fall in the UK and Europe, with one of its representatives in Switzerland reporting that the weather has been "definitely colder this week".

Tignes "filling up quickly" ski holiday in Tignes had better book their flights soon, as the resort is said to be "filling up quickly".

According to the Ski Club of Great Britain, great snow conditions at the resort mean that skiers and snowboarders are hitting the slopes with a vengeance.

Simon Henwood, Resort Operations Manager of Ski Club Tignes, told the Ski Club of Great Britain that there is "snow, snow and more snow" on the mountains of Tignes.

"This is my sixth time running the reps course and I've never seen anything like it. Over the weekend we had almost one metre of fresh snow," he commented.

Those looking to take family ski holidays in Tignes will be pleased to know that according to Mr Henwood, the conditions are "great for learning". Powder skiing is also reported to be good at the resort.

Halifax recently reported that 19 per cent of Britons intend to leave their homes to travel overseas and celebrate Christmas this year - a proportion of which will go skiing.

ITTFA says 'the colder the better' for 2008 ski season
Met Office indications are that winter 2008 will be colder than that of 2007 and therefore, ITTFA claims, suggests there will be an "increased likelihood" of improved snow conditions.

ITTFA adds that December has been a "great month" in terms of snow for those on European ski holidays.

Meanwhile, ITTFA predicts that some more non-traditional ski holiday destinations may begin to make a name for themselves in the coming years.

"We have seen some growth in Finnish exhibitors, especially for the specialist winter tourism destinations in Lapland such as Levi, Ruka and Villas. Other areas that are proving popular are northern Norway, Sweden and some Russian destinations," commented Anita Makela, Sales Manager of ITTFA member Matka.

However, ITTFA notes that ski holidays in France remain a favourite among Britons, with Canada becoming increasingly popular.
