From November 2010, Ryanair will be cutting their winter flight program by at least 16%, including the loss of two Stansted flights and approximately 2 million passengers.
The main cutbacks are the two Stansted flights, reducing Ryaniars presence at the airport to 22 aircraft, and a loss of around 1.5 million passengers between November 2010 and March 2011. The airline are also planning cuts at other airports with the exception of Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford.
The airline have cited the cost of the Air Passenger Duty as the reason for the reduced service. Chief Executive Michael O’Leary stated an “urgent need [to] scrap the damaging £11 tourist tax”.
Last winter saw many ski holiday operators reducing both their flights and contracted accommodation allocation. With Ryanair also reducing the number of flights available this year, more than ever those needing set dates or regional flights will have to book early in order not to miss out.
