Ski holidays in Tignes for the 'recycling conscious'

Ski holidays in Tignes for the 'recycling conscious' Carbon conscious consumers taking Tignes ski holidays this year can do so with a clear conscience, after it was revealed that the ski resort is making its own environmentally-friendly efforts.

The Tignes Lift Company (STGM) has announced that it is replacing the Brevieres chairlift with a new one - that is made mostly from components of the old chair lifts.

The Brevieres chairlift was replaced this season after 40 years of service during which time it has been covered by an avalanche on two occasions.

A spokesman for Skirail commented: "After dismantling and inspecting the old Brevieres chair, we realised that we could recycle nearly 80 per cent of its components."

Britons skiing in Tignes will now be able to catch a four-person chair lift instead of the previous two-man capacity.

The chair has a capacity of 1,800 people per hour and has reused 13 of the 16 pylons from the old installation as well as the motor from its base station and all the chairs.
