Over the last week or so, snowfall has slowed down across the Alps, but with a drop in temperatures this week there's been snow need to worry. Yesterday Austria boasted between 10cm and 30cm throughout the major resorts with Switzerland also getting a top up.
The Tirol's most famous resort for British holiday makers and Austria's most popular chalet destination, St. Anton was among the resorts that enjoyed 30cm of powder. The neighbouring resorts of Lech and Zurs, famed for the über-rich guests, also enjoyed the snowstorm as it crossed the Arlberg region with 15cm to add to the pristine pistes.
Saalbach and Hinterglemm offered a great day on the mountain yesterday with quiet slopes and 30cm of freshies to play with. Kitzbuhel boasted a welcome 10cm, to fill in the post Hahnenkamm World Cup dents in the piste and the nearby Zell am See also enjoyed 15cm throughout the day.
Engelberg, Switzerland's off-piste Mecca, would have made for a great day on the mountain with 20cm of snow hitting the glacier resort and the hard working businessmen and politicians would have had to battle with the old 'no friends on a powder day' mantra yesterday as 25cm graced the exclusive resort. Flims Laax and St. Moritz also enjoyed 15cm of snow as a decent storm passed over the Graubünden region.
Midweek powder is exactly what you hope for on a January ski deal and with temperatures dropping and snow makers back on full blast February should offer some great skiing too.
