The location of this hotel in arc 2000 is very good as you can ski straight to the Varet gondola and the snow stays cold up here. There is free wifi in the lounge but can be difficult to get connected. The rooms are basic. Buffet breakfast was ok - best things were fresh bread, croissants, ham, cheese. The buffet dinner is good for those with large appetites offering large variety, plus chips everyday to help you refuel! The hotel bar is good for apres ski. I'd stay here again as it's good value and you won't go hungry

Having read a few reviews for Hotel L'Aguille Rouge before we booked it, I must say it lived up to them all and overall we were very satisfied. Amongst the reasons we chose this hotel and resort was the altitude (so better chance of good snow this year) and there were 3 of us, making it diffuclt to book a hotel (usually requiring 2 or 4 people). However, 3 of us shared a room, which was just about adequately sized, although I was expecting worse from reviews I had read. That was probably the only negative for this hotel; positives included the wide range of food in the large restaurant (compared to catered chalets we've used in the past, a definite win), the food token system (so you could choose to have lunch or dinner, or both), the staff (all friendly, smiling, helpful) and closeness to slopes (step outside the locker room and you were there). The resort was great, a bit of a 3D maze to negotiate your way around but when you got the hang of it, there were many great bars to find, a particular favourite was 'Irish Bar' The Crazy Fox (live music, great atmosphere and Sky Sports). I would consider returning to this hotel, if we had not skied the slopes the previous year too.

Limited snow meant that this holiday did not allow us to enjoy such a wide range of ski runs as promised by the piste map. However, although the upper slopes were busy and occasionally there were queues at the lifts, we still managed to find some quieter runs, especially over lunchtime and our overall experience was positive.

The hotel was comfortable with a good range of buffet food for both breakfast and dinner. The restaurant was usually busy, and there seemed to be many young children about in family or friendship groups (mostly French/Belgian) also taking part in a range of activities, almost with a 'holiday camp' feel. This would probably be a good place to bring a family for ski holiday.
