Review of Le Totum and Flaine - 11/01/2012
Overall

My son and I stayed 2009 and 2010, new year and Xmas respectively. Very basic accommodation but clean and tidy. You will be best to lower your expectations based on price, you are not paying for a plush hotel, you are paying for good skiing. Hotel excellent location- could not be better if you want to ski to door- most importantly it is flat. The resort is a small concrete jungle, but covered in snow it looks OK. Ski school for kids is babysitting only, the French coaches show little interest in standard of teaching- after Flaine I decided to never again place my child in ski school preferring private lessons- however he is now 12 and can ski. Some nice little cafe's for pankcakes etc. Apres ski is poor and hotel in evenings can be desolate, expensive and lacking atmosphere, so go in a group and you will be fine. Food in 2010 was excellent, nice clean hotel with some very nice British and Scandinavian staff. Recommend Lynn Standhurst (American) as the best ski instructor, although I understand there are some slalom instructors which are also excellent but show no interest in coaching other than the French. French English relationships OK but not warm. I hope to return to Flain Totum for third year but only because of skiing and Lynn Standhurst coaching, I like to have a luxury 2nd holiday elsewhere to balance up, saying that, there is something nice about Flaine. 3 visits in 3 years? yes the holiday is recommended! I would frequent totum more often if they did single occupancy- great place to blast skiing for a week.

Review of Le Totem & Flaine - 15/04/2011
Overall

We went the first week of February 2011 and stayed in Club Hotel Le Totem in Flaine after having such a good weeks holiday in this hotel in 2010 we decided to come back. We stayed here as a couple but it is a family orientated hotel. Although our room was on the small side it was clean and tidy with a lush shower! Breakfast was self service with a good selection of hot & cold food. Evening meals (all 7 nights) was 3 courses and of a high standard. Portion size was enough for me but perhaps a little on the small side for my husband. The hotel was advertised as full board which meant you could return at lunchtime for a hot meal but in 2010 we were given the option of having a packed lunch, in 2011 we had to pay 5 euros. The hotel is ideally situated next to the ski school meeting point and very close to the 'yoghurt pots' and the Grand Platieres bubble. It hadn't snowed for a month and we skied in temperature up to +10°C, however the pistes were maintained to a very high standard across Le Grand Massif ski area with very few runs closed. Our favorite cafe stops of the week were on the Epicea green in Flaine, a little expensive but worth it and brilliant for the last stop of the day, and over in Morillon a good crepe stop near the bottom of the Sairon blue.

Overall

Hotel Le Totem has an excellent position right at the heart of the ski resort, overlooking the piste and is ski-in, ski-out. We had first-class ski conditions at February half-term. The food at the hotel was fantastic value, with a waitress service, three course evening meal and a plentiful and appetising buffet lunch (both with endless free wine!). It was easy and relaxing to pop back for lunch each day and the rooms were tired-looking but perfectly clean and comfortable. Bathrooms fine - masses of hot water! Great for families but we enjoyed it as a couple - super ESF too! Would definately return.

A week in Flaine - 11/04/2011
Overall

My wife and i booked a last minute snow boarding trip to Flaine staying at Le Totem. The staff were excellent and the manager actually carried my bag and showed us to the room. The room was okay, a bit tired and worn but the balcony was a real bonus. The food was excellent, every meal was plentiful tasted great and had a great selection. The staff were good organizing piste runs and evening activities. They were very friendly and didn't try to over sell us discounts and deals. Unfortunately my wife broke her arm whilst boarding but the staff went out of the way to help her. We were allowed to take meals back to our room if we wished. They always asked after her or came to see how she was. The resort itself was quiet, had a fantastic on piste medical centre plenty of ski runs, and all within easy reach of the hotel.
