Hotel Wagrainerhof - Wagrain, Austria
From the facilities to the staff, there are plenty of reasons why the Wagrainerhof deserves a spot on your shortlist this winter. It scores top marks location-wise too. You’re right in the resort centre and the nearest lift is a 5-minute stroll away – or just hop on the free ski bus that stops outside and you’ll be there even quicker.
The Rötzer family have been running things here since the 1950s, and they’ve certainly kept pace with the times. Over the years they’ve added some swish extras, like a top-floor spa decked out with a duo of saunas. And for families, there's a playroom with air hockey, table football and a stack of games. As for the décor, it’s a mix of modern and traditional – picture natural wood, plush fabrics and plenty of feature lighting to add that up-to-date feel.
Days start with a stellar breakfast buffet, where you can even get your own omelettes cooked to order. After a day on the mountain, hit the hotel’s PeopleZ bar for a drink or two – with its relaxed vibe and comfy booths, it’s your one for easy-going après. And when dinner rolls around, settle in for four courses of Austrian and Mediterranean dishes, all served with a gourmet twist.
