"With its own cable car just a few steps from the boot room, access to the skiing is as easy as it gets. After the ride up it’s a short ski and a chair over into Sestriere. At the end of the day you can ski back to resort, cross over the bridge into the piazza for antipasti, freshly made pizzas and pasta at La Trattoria (open till 4pm) and all washed down with a cold beer or two!"
Club Med Pragelato Vialattea, Italy
In an exceptional location in Italy's Piedmont Milky way region, at an altitude of 1,600 metres, this new Club Med Resort has charming chalet architecture. 20 clusters of chalets around the resort centre give pride of place to premium family accommodation.
Rémy Camoin, who also designed the Punta Cana renovation, was in charge of interior design at Club Med Pragelato. He took his inspiration from the great cultural heritage of the Piedmont region, from Pragelato’s Olympic experience and, most important of all, from Italian art de vivre: Club Med Pragelato is a modern interpretation of the traditional Italian-style guesthouse.
The Club Med Resort gives you direct access to Pragelato and Via Lattea (Milky Way), which are two different ski domains. But you set off from the same starting point for both domains. The gondola right at the top of the pizza takes 60 people at a time, is fast and leaves every 10 mins and delivers you to the top of Pragelato. The village is ski in ski out, there is a lovely long winding blue/red run (8.5km) that takes you back to the gondola. The area is vast and links with Montgenevre in France. Iglu Top Tips "It can take a while to ski into France (2 hrs if there are no queues), so make sure you wake up early on that day. If the weather is bad in Italy, ski over and chances are it will be different on the other side of the mountain. It's easy to miss the bubble in Sansicario (number 36) that you will need to take to Cesana towards Montgenevre. Keep to the left and don't stop at the end of the piste, keep your speed up as the run to the lift station is quite flat.”
A free shuttle takes guests to Pragelato town centre and to Sestrières.

Restaurants and Bars - Club Med, Pragelato
The centre of the village is the main building with the main dining room, La Tana specialty restaurant, Lo Stambucco (main) bar, reception, ski lockers, luggage room and an adult only bar on the top floor. The main dining room offers buffet breakfast (7.30 – 11am), lunch (12-2pm) and dinner (7 – 10pm). La Tana is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays and it is recommended to book a table as early as possible. The menu consists of antipasti, cheese fondue and desserts. There is also an extensive wine list including Laurent Perrier champagne for those special occasions.
Opposite the main building on the other side of the piazza there is the La Trattoria specialty restaurant, which serves Italian food between 2 and 4pm (3 – 6pm on Sundays) in case you missed lunch in the main restaurant. From 4pm there is a welcome back reception for the skiers returning to the village either in the main bar or on the piazza if the weather is good.
There is also a mountain restaurant, La Capanna Mollino, located on the first peak from the Sestriere bubble (towards Sauze d’Oulx, number 8 on the piste map). The Mollino is open for lunch between 12 and 2pm and has a idyllic sundeck. Iglu Top Tip “Most ski instructors turn up with their groups at 12 sharp, so if you want to sit outside you can either try to get in earlier or aim for 1.30ish.”
Different to other Club Med properties, Club Med Pragelato doesn't have a stage but rather a dance floor near the bar where evening shows are performed. It's much more relaxed than in other Club Med villages. Entertainment usually starts around 9.45pm, but they will wait until the majority of the guests have returned from dinner. Entertainment ranges from live bands to DJ's and dancing.
The spa is located in the center of the village and features 2 hot tubs, a swimming pool (caps mandatory – 5 Euro charge), saunas, hair dresser and treatment rooms including mani- and pedicure and massages all at extra cost.

This Club Med is slightly different from the rest. It has chalet accommodation around a large central comlpex. They don't do 'shows', they do live bands every night - brilliant. The spa is 1st class and well run. They also have 3 Mountain restaurants which is fantastic for when you are out touring and the ski area is massive. I did the restaurant in Sauze d'Oulx and the one near Claviere (Mont Soleil). Both were terrific but the Sauze d'Oulx one is exclusive and therefore better in my opinion. There are 2 speciality restaurants and the one in the Celler is one of the best I've seen at a Club Med. The skiing couldn't be more convenient. The Cable Car from Pragelato is almost exclusively for the Club Med and leaves from within 10m of the boot room. It is the fastest and best lift in the entire Milky Way ski area.
