Staff Review - Verbier
I have recently returned from my first trip to Verbier. I love going to new resorts as there is so much anticipation, will we get to resort in time, will the chalet be nice, will the snow be good, will the mountain live up to its reputation, will the après be lively and will I come back with any money!?
Verbier definitely lived up to it's reputation on many of these points and I was happily surprised on others. We flew into Geneva, gathered out bags and made our way to the train station in the airport. We then took a beautiful 1.5 hour train journey around lake Geneva, transferred at Martigny onto the mountain train up to Le Châble and finally a cable car up to Verbier. All in all this took around 2.5 hours and was a beautifully simple transfer.
We stayed in the Baroque Penthouse and it was a great representation of the luxury accommodations that Verbier has to offer. We were extremely lucky as it was snowing up on the mountain when we arrived. This brought some of the best snow of the season and when the clouds parted on the second day we were treated to a blue bird powder day.
Verbier’s terrain truly did meet all expectations with easily accessible rock drops, powder fields and tree runs all around the four valleys. If you make it up early enough though the itinerary runs offer some of the best off-piste in resort. However these do get tracked quite quickly so we headed over to Bruson on our third day (after another dump of powder) and found some amazing powder runs through the trees.
After all this hard work we had worked up a thirst and this is where Verbier surprised, beers up on the mountain where around 7 CHF (£5) and down in town you can get a pint at happy hour for 3.50CHF (£2.50) in pub Mont Fort! Then for the liveliest après in town head to The Fainet for all your Jager drinking, table dancing, live music, sing-along après fun. So Verbier defiantly did meet up to its reputation as one of Europe’s best ski resorts, with some of the best terrain I have enjoyed at prices that compare with France I will be revisiting this place as soon as possible as I don’t feel like I scratched the surface. Oh and I did manage to come back with some money! - Jake Keyte, Iglu Ski Sales Consultant, March 2015
