Skiing starts in Canada

Skiing starts in Canada The first resort in Canada opened its slopes today after incredible snowfall in October and the start of November. Banff – Sunshine Village (pictured) opened a week early running 4 lifts - Strawberry, Wawa, Jackrabbit, and Wolverine.

The start of winter is off to an exceptional start in both Europe and North America. Earlier in the week we reported on the latest conditions in the Alps where over 1m of snow has fallen in glacier ski areas such as Sölden, Kaprun and Hintertux (near Mayrhofen).

It’s been predicted that 2016/17 will be a La Nina season where intense storms generating 6-8 feet of snow could hit the Great Lakes and northern Rockies benefiting ski areas such as Alyeska, Big White, Keystone and Sun Peaks.

Total snowfall to date this winter

Revelstoke - 245 cm
Kicking Horse - 163 cm
Whitewater -145 cm
Sun Peaks -117 cm
Apex - 114 cm
Sunshine Village - 85 cm
Panorama - 76 cm
Marmot Basin - 66 cm
Kimberley - 20 cm
