KIMBERLEY, CANADA
Ski Holidays in Kimberley
While the resort of Kimberley in the Canadian Purcell Mountains has a small selection of nursery and blue runs, it is more advanced skiers who will get the most out of holidaying in this part of the world. Its picture perfect town, which lies close to the slopes, cannot fail to charm anyone looking to enjoy all aspects of ski culture.
The so-called Bavaria of the Rockies has a laid back vibe and is generally quieter than many of the resorts found in north America.

Kimberley Ski Resort
It’s easy to believe that you’re in an Alpine village as opposed to Canada when you first arrive in Kimberley, as most of the building have been constructed out of pine in a traditional style. Its proximity to the slopes means there’s ski in/ski out accommodation available and rooms with stunning views of the mountains.
Snow conditions in Kimberley
The ski season in Kimberley typically starts mid-way through December and lasts until the first few weeks in April. As it lies in a place that gets a lot of powder naturally, there is no need for it to be enhanced by artificial means. Powder junkies will be in their element as this soft snow falls in abundance and stays for a long time.
Skiing in Kimberley
Due to the stunning conditions of the pistes at Kimberley, it’s not surprising that advanced skiers manage to achieve so much in a visit to this part of Canada. Well-groomed runs and fall-line skiing make for wonderful experiences on the slopes, but things get even more exciting off-piste.
Easter Bowl and the Black Forest Glades areas offer the best powder and reward those who accept the challenge. Experimentation is key here where skiing is positively world-class.
Apres ski, restaurants and other activities in Kimberley
Once you’ve taken off your skis, there are plenty of other winter activities to enjoy in Kimberley. They include snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice skating and curling. Alternatively, you can step away from the snow and ice altogether for the evening and embark on a spot of bowling or shopping.
When it comes to dining there are plenty of options in Kimberley, but the Steamwinder Bar and Grill is a particularly popular choice. Its winning combination of live music and a heated outdoor seating area mean you can enjoy your meal and drinks in whichever environment best suits your needs.
You can stay at the Steamwinder all evening as the apres ski continues until late, but it’s not the only jumping joint in town. McBee’s Pub tends to get packed almost every night, but for good reason, as it’s a great place to unwind and hang out.
Other activities include:
- Cross-country skiing
- Skiing and snowboarding
- Snowshoeing
- Backcountry skiing
Transfer time in Kimberley
Cranbook International Airport is the closest hub to Kimberley and is conveniently located just 20 kilometres away. Still within the region of the Canadian Rockies, which the Purcell Mountains are sometimes classified as, it takes less than half an hour to drive between the airport and the resort in good conditions.
Kimberley Reviews
2 years ago, we went on a skiing holiday to canada and stayed at this hotel. it was by far the best in the whole of calgary! the hotel itself was more like a home, warm and cosy with friendly staff. the ski slopes were truly amazing, and whilst my mother and her friends were skiing, i joined the skiing lessons. i started on a private one and then moved into the group. by the second day i was already amazing! the food was to die for and each restaurant and pub had a warm atmosphere. the hotel itself was about a 5 minute walk from the town, where we would go everyday to go to the cafe and buy gifts. i would deffinately recomend you stay at this hotel, it was everything you could ask for and more!
Apres Ski: 5/5
