Best La Plagne Mountain Restaurants

la plagne mountain restaurant

A crisp glass of wine and a delicious meal on the mountain is de rigueur for an Alpine ski holiday, and there are few resorts to match La Plagne for the quality and variety of lunchtime hotspots.

If it’s one of those perfect bluebird days, you can soak up the sun (and the view) on the terrace of Roc des Blanchets. Or, if the weather has turned, you can sample some Savoyarde specialities in the cosy ambience of Le Chalet des Verdons Sud.

But, of course, those aren’t the only options. From French fine dining to vegetarian food, there’s a piste-side lunch spot for every taste and preference.

So, whether you're looking to line the stomach before an evening of apres or looking for somewhere cosy to wait out a white-out, here's our selection of the 7 best La Plagne mountain restaurants.

The best mountain restaurants in La Plagne

  1. Roc des Blanchets - For spectacular terrace views
  2. Chalet des Colosses - For a wide choice of vegetarian options
  3. Les Inversens - For large groups
  4. Le Chairlift - For a sit down lunch
  5. Chalet de la Roche - For great pizza
  6. Le Chalet des Verdons Sud - For a traditional Savoyarde lunch
  7. Le Chalet du Friolin - For an extra special mountain meal

1. Roc des Blanchets

For spectacular terrace views

If you’re intent on finding a La Plagne mountain restaurant with a view, look no further than Roc des Blanchets, which you can find between Belle Plagne and Champagny at 2100m.  You can take the Sérac, Rossa, Crépines or Champagny boardercross pistes, all gentle blues, to get there - a great way to ease yourself into lunch.

Take a seat on the Roc des Blanchets’ panoramic terrace, tuck into some reasonably-priced local meat and cheese, and admire one of the best views in the resort, described as “magnificent”, “stunning”, “superb”, “simply sublime”, by many satisfied customers on TripAdvisor. And, as the restaurant is south-facing, sun is pretty much guaranteed all day.

2. Chalet des Colosses

For a wide choice of vegetarian options

Not long ago, if you asked for a vegetarian option in the Alps, you were likely to be offered some chicken and a gallic shrug. But things are changing, and Les Chalet des Colosses is a prime example.

Located near the ice rink off the Bellecôte pistes (you can’t miss the red British phone box outside), you’ll find vegetarian-friendly dishes like vegetable curry, samosas, and aubergine gratin on the menu at Chalet des Colosses.

But meat-lovers needn’t worry, all the carnivorous classics are there too (steak haché, escalope etc.), and fromage fans won’t be disappointed - there’s a generous selection of fondues, raclettes and tartiflettes to tuck into, too.

3. Les Inversens

For large groups

If you’re in a big group, it can be a challenge to find somewhere with space during the lunch rush. Your best bet is probably to head up to Les Inversens, which has a large terrace and an even larger menu.

Located near the summit of Roch de Mio, the second highest peak in La Plagne, there’ll be something to eat at Les Inversens for every member of your group, with soups, curries, crepes, steaks, and pasta to name just a few dishes. There shouldn’t be any disagreements about cost either, with all budgets catered for on the reasonably-priced menu.

And of course, Les Inversens high altitude location has bestowed it with spectacular views over the resort, as referenced by many customers, alongside the fine food and friendly atmosphere.

4. Le Chairlift

For a sit down lunch

Sometimes, all you want is an expansive menu that caters to everyone, especially if you’re a family or big group.

If you’re after options, Le Chairlift, situated underneath the Bergerie chairlift in Plagne Village, should be your go-to lunch spot. Local specialties such as tartiflette and croziflette (a French pasta bake) are served alongside family favourites like lasagna, burgers, chips, and croque monsieur. There are also crepes and tarts available for those with a sweet tooth, as well as hot drinks, and a great selection of wine and beer.

Reviewers frequently praise the quality of the food, the generous portions, and the range of tastes catered for on the menu

5. Chalet de la Roche

For great pizza

There are many things we could commend Chalet de la Roche for - with both a sunny terrace and a cozy wood-panelled interior with a fireplace, it can be enjoyed whatever the weather - but top of the list has to be the pizza.

The chef is Italian, so you can trust that this is pizza done properly: think large calzones and crispy dough bases laden with generous helpings of meat and vegetables. Pasta and Savoyard classics are also available, all of which can be washed down with coffee and mulled wine, and, if you have space, followed up with waffles.

Find it in Plagne 1500 at the foot of the Olympic bobsleigh track.

6. Le Chalet des Verdons Sud

For a traditional Savoyarde lunch

You won’t be hard-pressed to find Savoyard cuisine in the French Alps, but if you want the real deal, seek out Le Chalet des Verdons Sud

Located on the south side of Champagny, inside an appropriately authentic Savoyard chalet, this piste-side restaurant offers a plated service of the finest traditional dishes, including raclette, tartiflette, croziflette, charcuterie, and boite chaude.

Don’t just take our word for it. Customers gush about the exquisite food and warm reception from the restaurant’s team.

7. Le Chalet du Friolin

For an extra special mountain meal

At the foot of the Les Bauches ski lift on Montchavin, and reachable on the Dérochoir, Crozats and Malatray ski slopes is Le Chalet du Friolin

You won’t find a nicer spot to while away a long, luxurious lunch. Enjoy a sublime selection of traditional dishes and local specialities from the a la carte menu, as well as wines chosen by the restaurant’s wine merchant. Highlights include carpaccio of salmon gravlax, lamb shank, and chocolate fondant.

The interior is stylish and traditional, yet warm and inviting, and outside on the sun terrace there are deck chairs and hide-covered sofas. Indeed, it would be easy to sink into the seating at Le Chalet du Friolin and never want to leave.
