The Best Mountain Restaurants in Meribel - According to a Meribel Expert

What Meribel ski trip would be complete without a lazy lunchtime spent on a sunny terrace, scoffing Savoyard cuisine and washing it down with a local wine?

And in Meribel, at the heart of the world’s largest ski area, there’s a veritable buffet of piste-side lunch spots to choose from. You could sample a different mountain restaurant every day of the week, or, if you have particular needs or preferences, you’re sure to find a place that suits your requirements.

With that in mind, we’ve picked the best restaurants for families, vegetarians, groups, special occasions, and more.

So, loosen your ski boots, take a seat, and allow us to serve you up a selection of Meribel’s finest mountain restaurants.

The best mountain restaurants in Meribel

From luxury lunches to affordable family fare, we’ve found a great mountain restaurant for every taste.

  • Café del Mott - Best buffet restaurant
  • Allodis - Best for a luxury meal
  • Clos Benard - Best for local cuisine
  • La Fruitiere - Best for groups
  • La Bistro du Monchu - Best for vegetarians and vegans
  • La Sitelle - Best for families

Café del Mott - best buffet restaurant

Café del Mott is one of those places that simply offers everything you could want from a mountain restaurant, and more... Large sunny terrace, check; extensive buffet, check; indoor dining for cold, cloudy days, check.

But that’s not all: on the menu is a five course buffet of soup, appetisers, mains, cheeses and deserts; the terrace is split across three levels, and there’s live music, sun loungers, fire pits, sofas, and even a jacuzzi. In fact, the only thing that’s not extra is the prices. With dishes ranging from £8 to £24, you’d struggle to find a more cost-effective lunch spot in the resort.

Thanks to the range of items on the menu and affordable cost, we think Café del Mott is the best place to head to if you’re after a quick, tasty lunch.

Allodis

Whether it’s a birthday, anniversary, or any other special occasion, sometimes you just need something more luxurious than a buffet. Although, do you really need an excuse to dine in style when you’re skiing in Meribel?

Located in the 4 star hotel of the same name, Allodis offers a refined but relaxed culinary experience on its ski-in ski-out, panoramic terrace or in its log fire heated dining room. Chef Philippe Vrignaud has designed an indulgent menu of the finest regional and French dishes. Snail casserole and sliced veal for starters, roasted rack of lamb and calf sweetbreads for mains, and fondant or mille-feuille for dessert. And for an Alpine restaurant, it has a surprisingly wide selection of vegetarian dishes, including truffle risotto, butternut squash with nut granola, and a range of salads.

On Tripadvisor, reviewers praise its “creative and elegant” food and friendly and accommodating staff. Find it near the Rond Point des Pistes.

Le Clos Bernard

Le Clos Bernard feels like one of those mountain restaurants you discover by chance and want to keep all to yourself. Unfortunately, as a result of its wonderful food and beautiful setting, it is Meribel's worst kept secret.

Nestled deep in the forest near Altiport, this charming, traditional restaurant serves up the epitome of Savoyard cuisine. Think delicious cuts of meat cooked in the fireplace, foie-gras terrine, beef gravlax, duck leg confit, grilled fish, tartare, and, of course, five-cheese fondue.

You can ski to Le Clos Bernard by following the marked route on the animal trail from the Loze express chairlift. Just make sure to book in advance. It’s a small and very popular restaurant.

La Fruitiere

If there are a few of you, you could do worse than to head to La Fruitiere. Located right on the slopes at the Folie Douce complex, this restaurant’s large terrace, long tables, and lively atmosphere make it the perfect place for big groups of friends.

On the menu, there’s something to please everyone, including pasta, burgers, fish dishes, some fancier fare, and a couple of veggie and vegan-friendly options. You’ll even be treated to a cabaret performance while you eat, which is likely to be singing, dancing, or both.

La Fruitiere has two sittings, one at 12.30 pm and another at 14.30. If you’re there for the later slot, you could continue skiing after your meal, or you could just head straight into the boisterous, table-dancing après on the neighbouring Folie Douce terrace. It can be hard to resist.

The complex also houses La Petite Cuisine, a self-service restaurant, and The Butcher, a burger house, if you don’t fancy a full sit down meal.

La Bistro du Monchu

The range of vegetarian and vegan options available in Alpine restaurants is gradually improving but it can be hard to find. If you or anyone in your group doesn’t eat meat, we’d recommend checking out La Bistro du Monchu

Having opened its doors in 2017, La Bistro du Monchu is a relatively recent addition to Meribel and has by far the best veggie and vegan options on the mountain. Highlights include its vegetable pizza, risotto, and buddha bowl. And don’t worry, meat eaters are well-catered for, with burgers, tartar, pork ribs and plenty more carnivorous favourites. There’s also a fantastic selection of homemade desserts, courtesy of the pastry chef.

Many reviewers praise the quality of the food, the friendly staff, and the great view over the slopes. You can find La Bistro du Monchu on the Rhodos piste.

La Sitelle

If you’re in a quick lunch with the kids and back on the slopes kind of mood, ski on over to La Sitelle, which is just under the snow park at Les Plattières.

The restaurant has a snack hut on the edge of the slope that can serve you takeaway burgers, hot dogs, croque-monsieurs, and hot or cold drinks faster than you can say “merci beaucoup”. If you do want to sit down, La Sitelle also has tables in its dining room and on the terrace. Pasta, burgers, and Savoyard dishes are all on the menu, and, according to reviewers, service is also very speedy.

The only problem is that your plans for a quick lunch might be delayed by the absolutely stunning view from the terrace.
