Mountain and outdoor bars in Meribel - best for après
- Le Rond-Point (The Ronnie)
- La Folie Douce
- Jack's Bar
Any self-respecting Alpine resort should have at least one mountain bar where you can dance on a table in your ski boots, and Meribel has a few.
Le Rond-Point, or the “Ronnie”, is Meribel’s iconic après ski spot, as notorious for crowd surfing as it is for toffee vodka shots. The music usually starts at 4pm, a little later than some of the other mountain bars, but it’s also open a little longer, making it a great place to head to to keep the après going. The resort’s best local bands and DJs are always on hand to entertain the Ronnie crowd.
Thanks to its sister establishments in some of France’s other major resorts, the name La Folie Douce is something of a stamp of approval for any piste-side party spot, and Meribel's version is no different. Open from 9am to 5pm every day, expect live music, DJs and performances on the terrace from 1.30pm. You can find it just below the Sauliere Express Mid station.
Finally, we have to mention Jack’s Bar, which is located right at the foot of the slopes in Meribel centre. Its drinks and food menus have been created by expert chefs and bartenders, and there’s a rotating selection of craft beers to sample, as well as great happy hour deals and a regular lineup of live music. There are also special events throughout the winter season, including themed festival nights and appearances from world famous comedians.
Best Luxury bars - for a laid-back, sophisticated drink
- Dionysus Wine Bar
- L'Abreuvoir
- Savoy Hotel Bar
If table dancing isn’t your thing, or if you just want to give your legs a break, Meribel also has a nice selection of luxury bars where you can enjoy a more sophisticated après ski experience.
Dionysus Wine Bar has only been open since 2020, and its modern, stylish decor is the perfect place to sit back and venture through its extensive wine list, as well as a great selection of beers and cocktails.
Right in the centre of Meribel is L’Abreuvoir, a luxurious bar-restaurant that features elegant wooden fixtures draped in white sheepskins. Cocktails, wine, and Savoyard cuisine are all on the menu.
Or, for four star luxury après, check out the Savoy Hotel Bar, which is open to both guests and drop in drinkers from 4pm to 11pm every day. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day’s skiing with a wine, cocktail or beer by the fire.
Best Cocktail Bars - your cosmopolitan vibe
If you’re after a cocktail, look no further than La Copiña. This drinks and tapas bar employs a team of passionate mixologists, who, in a process they call “cooking with cocktails”, have combined ideas, flavours, ingredients and creativity to design the most extensive and wondrous cocktail list in the whole of Meribel. Some are experimental, like the The Good Life (whiskey, umami, hazelnut) and the Threat To Sobriety (rye whiskey, cocoa and cigar smoke), and some are welcome twists on classics, like the Palomita (pineapple, grapefruit, mezcal). One thing’s for sure, all of them are delicious.
Special mention here to Jack’s Bar, which also offers cocktails that are a cut above rival Meribel bars.
Best Sports bar - for watching the big matches
Many Meribel bars have TVs that show sports fixtures, but if you want a guaranteed view of a match you can’t miss, as well as live music, DJs, and a great atmosphere, Doron Pub is the place to go. Right at the foot of the pistes in Meribel centre, this British run bar opens at 4pm, and is in the perfect location to ski into after a day on the mountain. It has six large screens, which show all the biggest rugby and football games, and the party keeps on going until late into the night.
Best late night bar
Meribel doesn’t have as many legendary late night spots as neighbouring Val Thorens, but it does have Sully’s. Located underneath the Brewer’s Den bar, this Meribel institution doesn’t even open until 11pm. But once it does, its resident DJs will keep you up until dawn every day of the week.
Entry is free (unless there’s a ticketed event on), and there are cocktails on tap, premium spirits, and plenty more types of booze to fuel the all-night party. These hallowed walls have previously been blessed by the presence of big name DJs like Krafty Kuts, Dub Pistols and Shaka Loves, but also host plenty of incredible lesser known live musicians and home grown DJs. A good time is guaranteed.
