Avoriaz is well placed in the centre of a massive ski area, perfect for good intermediates. Most places are ski in, ski out. There are some great pistes, mainly reds and blues, though there are some long flat sections on some blues. Black runs are few, though the wall is a bit of excitement, if that's what you're looking for. Snow cover was brilliant. The quality of piste maintenance was satisfactory, not perfect, but this was probably down to massive snowfalls and an end-of-season fatigue.
Apres Ski was virtually non-exsistent. Admittedly, we went late in the season, but the chalet staff said it was always quiet. There are a few bars and restaurants, but not many for the size of resort, and all very quiet. I have been to at least a dozen resorts in the past and this has the least happening by a long way.
Chalet Marie is excellent. The facilities are good, and it is very easy for ski access. The catering was first rate.
