Early February in Chalet Marie - 20/02/2015
Overall

This was our second stay in this Chalet, having spent a similar week there last year. We re-booked immediately on our return last time. This is a superb chalet with true ski in ski out. The facilities are excellent and the skiing immense with a vary wide variety of runs for all levels. We have near beginners to advanced skiers in our party and all enjoyed the skiing. The resort is excellent though the après may be a little dull for some, it was fine for us as we made our own in the chalet. The food was plentiful and varied with brilliant cakes and biscuits for afternoon tea and lots of wine in the evenings. The transfers were quick and efficient with a short flight time it made getting there and back nice and relaxed. The only criticism that we had this time were the chalet staff who seemed rather disorganised (e.g. only cooked 12 instead of 13 meals one night), seemed to be a logger heads on occasions and certainly seemed to just want to get finished and leave each night as soon as possible. They even served the cheese one night in the sitting area after my wife had specifically asked for it to be set out on the table. This was so they could set up for the morning and get away! Whose holiday was it I ask. So overall great, but hopefully next year we get different people to look after us (like the first year)

Chalet Marie - 04/09/2014
Overall

First visit to this resort and Chalet in 2014, already booked and looking forward to visiting again in 2015. Excellent comfortable Chalet, great hosts whose varied cooking was exceptional. Lots of wine of reasonable quality and the hosts will bring in extra drinks for you if asked nicely (and paid for) So nice to have true ski in and out without any hassle. Ski conditions were brilliant (early February) with the slopes carefully groomed every early morning. Lots of varied runs for beginner to intermediate skiers, some more challenging runs, but this resort is probably not for the real expert, though many skiers just went off piste in thick snow! Transfer time is good and it is just a short walk from the drop off point to the Chalet. Apres ski not really for us (why would you when you have such a comfortable place to be) so cannot really comment, but plenty of good restaurants and bars if wanted. All in all a great skiing holiday!!

Great skiing, top chalet, quiet apres-ski - 19/04/2013
Overall

Avoriaz is well placed in the centre of a massive ski area, perfect for good intermediates. Most places are ski in, ski out. There are some great pistes, mainly reds and blues, though there are some long flat sections on some blues. Black runs are few, though the wall is a bit of excitement, if that's what you're looking for. Snow cover was brilliant. The quality of piste maintenance was satisfactory, not perfect, but this was probably down to massive snowfalls and an end-of-season fatigue. Apres Ski was virtually non-exsistent. Admittedly, we went late in the season, but the chalet staff said it was always quiet. There are a few bars and restaurants, but not many for the size of resort, and all very quiet. I have been to at least a dozen resorts in the past and this has the least happening by a long way. Chalet Marie is excellent. The facilities are good, and it is very easy for ski access. The catering was first rate.

Good modern chalet with all rooms having en suite bathroom/shower facilities and a great location offering ski in - ski out when snow available! Lovely balcony for relaxing in the afternoon sunshine and enjoying a cup of tea with a freshly baked slice of cake expertly prepared by Ros and Jay who were first class hosts throughout the week and worked very hard to address the different dietary requirements of our group. My only gripe(and that is purely personal) was with the quality of the wine which was available in in unlimited quantities (both white and red) but in my opinion was pretty average. The majority of the Group did not share my misgivings as they consumed a fair amount during our stay The weather was pretty good, some might say there was too much sun so skiing after 2ish was at the slower slopes especially not pleasant due to the slushy condiitons. So the strategy was get up early and ski almost continually until it was time for lunch and a bit of sun worship!
