Eurostar CEO in “no doubt” over new London to Geneva direct trains
Geneva is a key city for transfers to ski resorts, with iconic Chamonix, Morzine and Avoriaz about an hour’s drive away, among others.
The UK and Swiss governments signed a memorandum of understanding in May 2025 to establish direct train services between the two, with high flight numbers being an indication of potential train demand.
There is also competition for the service with Richard Branson’s Virgin group and startup Gemini Trains, although Eurostar is confident of its chances, suggesting it could fund a much-needed new train depot itself to sweeten the government.

Geneva is a key hub for plenty of ski resorts
Chance for skiers to secure a piece of Belle Plagne history
The former 6-seat Roche de Mio gondola - which is being transformed into a more comfortable 10-seater version - took many happy skiers up from Belle Plagne to the Roche de Mio peak at 2,739m.
The auction takes place in La Plagne at 2pm on 28 June 2025, although you can also take part live on their website.
Bids begin at €500, and you’ll have to organise collection yourself on 5th July - although there will be ‘lifting equipment’ on site to help you get it onto your transport. Good luck!

Huge expansion of winter flight routes to the mountains
Three new routes from Manchester will go to Ljubljana, Strasbourg and Verona, while Northern Irish skiers can go from Belfast to Rovaniemi in Lapland - the first direct connection between Finland and Northern Ireland.
Bristol-based skiers will see extra flights to Zurich and Verona, while Scots can now get from Edinburgh to Innsbruck - a key connection for lots of Austrian and Italian ski resorts.
Birmingham and Southend Airports will have regular flights to Grenoble, while Gatwick is getting more flights to Toulouse - the best airport for Andorran ski holidays.

World-class technology introduced in first for British skiing
South Wilts Ski Club’s new technology uses high-sensitivity sensors to track the skier’s movements, while it also generates realistic G-forces to replicate mountain skiing.
General Manager Craig Philpott explains: “It really helped my personal skiing before I went away, while it’s also fantastic as an introduction to skiing - you’re in control so you can make it as intense as you want to!”
All are welcome to use the technology, even if you’ve never put on skis before. South Wilts Ski Club is found just off the point where the A303 and A36 meet - a 25-minute drive west from Salisbury.
