Far too small and tired for 8-10 people - 24/02/2020
Overall

We were 4 adults and 4 children, it's a 10 person chalet, there weren't enough chairs for us to relax on (seating for dinner was ok) It's a nice enough chalet, very tired in places, toilet, lights and bath plug wasn't working on arrival, only boot warmers for 4 people. Great Chalet staff, Matt really tried under the cramped circumstances, both in the kitchen and tiny sitting/dining room. Cakes weren't really up to it but I appreciate the altitude makes things difficult! We booked early to avoid disappointment and get a good place but won't do that again! Also, it's meant to be 'ski in ski out' yet we had to walk down the road then down a slope to get to the piste!! Not good value for money although Val Thorens is a great ski resort.

half term ski holiday = Kelseys & Peelings - 23/02/2015
Overall

Overall a great holiday. Luke was a very good chalet host, and the food was always fantastic. The chalet is a bit short on storage space and could benefit froma DVD player, but otherwise it was sound and well located for the piste. The strategy of bussing guests to a joint meeting place in Moutiers (to wait for other guests to join the coach from other resorts to save money) is tedious as it makes for long transfer days, so a private transfer otpion would appeal. I would suggest moving to Sunday transfers, much quieter and as they charter their flights they could easily do so in 2016.

Nice chalet, huge ski area... - 22/01/2015
Overall

We stayed in Rayon De Soleil in the second week of January and had a broadly good trip. The snow quality was mixed, there was almost no base-layer so despite a couple of bursts of fresh snow during the week, the piste conditions were variable. Val Thorens was broadly good due to its altitude, but the rest of the 3 Valleys were a mix of ice and rocks! Snow aside, the chalet is of a good standard, and Iglu/SkiWorld did a good job. The room sizes vary, Room 1 is good, 2 is relatively small. Our host did a good job and the food was solid all week. There's a 30m walk to/from the front door to a small skiable entry ramp onto the main area of lifts - very convenient and well positioned to get out on the mountain first thing. Overall, it's pretty much what you'd expect from this level of chalet, well placed in an immense and snow-sure resort, good for lots of thigh-burning kms and I'm sure in better seasons lots of terrain to explore. One small word of warning - our coach was the first out of town at 3:30am after fresh snow, and had an accident on poorly-ploughed roads. It ended without harm (with a 7 hour delay and lots of new grey hairs) but could have been very bad, so if you have an early transfer in fresh snow, check that the driver is taking the necessary precautions (chains, driving extra slowly)!

Our Stay - 14/01/2015
Overall

We were lucky with snow. Chalet is well positioned very close to the piste. Bedrooms upstairs very small. The double bedroom only had one light no where near the head of the bed so impossible to read in bed. No room for bedside tables Only had 2 fires as no more wood provided Evening meal portions were small especially the desserts Token breakfast served on morning of our departure ( 10am) No cooked food or bread or juice provide just yoghurt and cereal. However our chalet host was very pleasant and helpful. Exit door did not always close securely - this was mentioned to staff several times but nothing was done to ensure Chalet was secure. All this said I would return due to position of Chalet. Ski shop ( Chamois ) was excellent - good friendly service and very trusting. They gave my son some shin protectors for the week and said to pay for them at the end of the week if they worked. No record of the loan was recorded so they relied on our honesty. We were delayed at the airport for about 4 hours at Gatwick and then had to wait about 1 hr 40 mins for our coach to leave Grenooble. I think our homeward bound flight was about 1.30 hrs late leaving Grenoble. Wouldn't recommend Monarch on this basis.
