What is New Year Skiing like?
Many ski resorts are lively at the best of times, but New Year’s Eve ratchets up the excitement with spectacle, music and entertainment – there’s nowhere better to celebrate than in the mountains.
France and Austria host fireworks displays, street performances, parades, torchlit descents, children's entertainment, DJ sets, and more. Italy sees in New Year in style with multi-course gala dinners. Tuck into cotechino and lentils at midnight (symbolising wealth and good fortune for the year ahead) and partying into the early hours.
While New Year’s week is a peak skiing date, if you can get up early on 1 January while your fellow skiers are recovering, you might have the pleasure of quiet, near-empty slopes.
