Portavesco - Arabba 3rd to 11th April - 13/04/2015
Overall

Excellent location, fantastic food, excellent service, friendly staff. Snow and whether excellent, so many runs and son many places to ski to. Good tuition. Very limited apres-ski apart from Bar Peter in the middle of town, but quite lively. If you want to ski, ski, ski, this is the resort to go to.

Arabba 2015 - 12/01/2015

Arrived to alarming sight of grass exposed hills and equally worrying forecast of no snow expected all week!! We were therefore very pleasantly surprised next day to discover the quality of the piste. The teams worked tirelessly every night to ensure slopes were in good condition and skiable every day we were there. They deserve a medal for what they achieved; nothing short of a miracle! The hotel was welcoming, staff pleasant, room basic but acceptable and everywhere very clean. There was a good locker room and the swimming pool etc ...clean and good. They provided a four course evening meal and a huge selection for a hearty breakfast before taking the short walk to the chairlift. It's about twice the distance across town to the cable cars. The rep, Fredericia, was friendly, helpful and especially supportive during my feeble ski efforts (due to carrying an injury) on a trip to the Hidden Valley. Warning: it is high altitude at first and this also made me very giddy. Only down side for the holiday is that the Hotel was experiencing problems with WiFi, which made it spasmodic at best. Also, their phone system went down, so it was not possible to make outside or room to room calls. This made it difficult to communicate with my travel mate who was on the next floor and I had to use my mobile more often than normal to keep in touch with my partner at home. Apparently the internet in Arraba is often down. The Sella Ronda area is beautiful, with loads of skiing for all levels. There is a huge area of blue runs available across from the Burz chairlift towards the Pralongia lifts, which beginners love. But it is worth noting is that to return to base in Arabba you have to take a red run (27 or 24) at the top of Le Pale lift. Let's hope they get some snow very soon.

Great holiday! - 12/04/2011

Took 8 lads to the Hotel Portavescovo. Despite some people slating the food it was very enjoyable and every one of our party was pleased. The pool is a little small but kept at a good temperature and the sauna/steam and plunge pool a fantastic respite after a tough days skiing. Some of the narrower areas of the piste cut into terribly rough and skiing after 2:30pm was hard going. Plenty of hard faced, arrogant and annoying Germans for sport - life really is too short Colonel Klink. No nightlife - but that suited us: we went for the snow and theres plenty of piste to explore. Biggest plus - it was the most reasonably priced ski resort any of us have been to and the locals were exceptionally friendly. Highly recommended.
