Cheval Blanc nice sized apartments for 3 persons. But noisy, apartment 506 directly above road so drunk people shouting and screaming from 11pm through till 5am outside. Inside the same kinds of noise as apartment is built round a central atrium which means noise from above, below, beside and opposite. 10pm noise curfew not enforced by management. Ski hire pre booked at Eskiador just down the road from apartment. Queued for 1 hour to get served, never experienced this in 20 years of hiring skis. Staff unfriendly and stressed. Boots too small, returned next day to change but was told they had run out, never experienced this in 20 years skiing. I purchased new boots from Twinner sports who were attentive and helpful. I recommend you don't hire from Eskiador but use Twinner instead which is situated in the foyer of the Cheval Blance. Returned hire skis at end of holiday to Eskiador, once more greeted with rude staff and queued for 45 minutes to return stuff, never experienced this in 20 years skiing. Tried to get a refund for the early return of the too small boots but was refused, they suggested that I should have bought my boots from them and they may have been able to give a discount. I gave up arguing my point in the end, please don't use them. Val Thorens is great for skiing with easy access to lifts and piste, nice town but if you have a young family or are not the partying type please check to make sure you get a quiet apartment.

Large ski area is great and well linked. Runs are varied and there are fun snow parks also -resort just lacks good tree-lined runs. Apres ski is quiet due to the prevalence of self catering facilities and ski in ski out accommodation. Cheval Blanc isn't fancy but it's clean and has all the basic necessities. Nice helpful staff.

A superb ski resort which has been very well planned enabling you to get the very best from your ski holiday. Ski right to the door of the appartment and we only encountered a few queues at chair lifts/gondolas. Superb snow.
