Everything you could need - 20/04/2019
Overall

This resort is a lovely large area, that has a great ski area as well as different towns and villages. There is plenty of access to the mountains both for skiers and non skiers. We went the beginning of April and the snow up the mountains was fantastic! Really nice conditions, sunny and clear blue skies most days. The resort has everything you could possibly need, from shopping, thermal pool, swimming pool, horse riding plus the old town of briancon. All of which make it good for families of mixed ski abilities who may not wish to be out on the mountain all day. For those that do want a full days skiing there is plentiful runs and areas and mountain bars and restaurants. The apres ski is great and there is a wide variety of restaurants to choose from too.

Flight with Thomas Cook was on time. Transfer took about 1 3/4 hours. Loads of snow throughout the resort. Ski hire from Luc Alphand was excellent. Hotel staff were pleasant, food very good quality, plentiful and varied. Bedroom basic but beds comfy and plenty of hot water, only a half bath but we managed. Good TV reception with BBC1 and 2, Wi Fi in the bedrrom. Choose a larger room with balcony as the other rooms are very modest.

One word AWESOME !!!, its got everything you could want, The piste's are fantastic , and off piste is brilliant , the snow park is wicked, the lift system was great no queues only time it was busy when heading back home to the hotel on some of the paths. We stayed at the hotel GRAND AIGLE , which in order: had great beer with two happy hours about 3.5 euro a pint with table football , pool and video games, Staff were all youngsters and great made sure our meal times everything was o.k. and food was great and plenty. SKI EQUIPMENT was great and no trouble to go back and change or adjust anything and great tips where and when to ski certain parts , Rooms were warm and comfy , and just outside our hotel just yards away were 5 or 6 great restaurants. All in all we had a great ski all week huge amount of ski area to choose from and plenty of mountain restaurants to choose with great food not to expensive about 10 euros for a good meal i.e. sausage , 2 eggs ,salad, chips , bread roll and bottled water.

I was really pleasantly surprised by the scale and variety of the resort area. We didn't get to ski all of it in a week. We found the interchange between the off piste and piste very easy to do given the wide open runs. The boarders were in heaven on some of the off piste areas which are well supported/reached by the existing lift system which whilst not flash (no heated seats etc), was certainly extensive. In my view, a much underrated resort area.

I went to Serre in January 2009 staying at the Grand Aigale. Had a fantastic week the snow was great and slopes empty. There is skiing here for all levels and lots of off piste. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Hope to return again this year.
