This resort is great for intermediate and advanced skiers but not so good for beginners. There is a great combination of off piste and on piste. Lots of variety -loved it! Les Balmes accommodation was good. Try Toko snack which is next to the lift pass office for a reasonably priced lunch.

Tignes is a great resort. I went skiing here during the 1st week of January. Loads of varied pistes in excellent condition. Snowboard park was not ready though which was a bit disappointing. The pistes were never too busy and I never had to queue longer than a minute or so at the busy lifts - I would definitely go back!

Fantastic resort all round. Great snow even when the rest of Europe was struggling. Good green and blue runs including the Palafour which is a great end of week challenge for beginners. Great instructors and our children had a fabulous time. Apres ski at the Angel Bar is a must. Happy hour between 4 and 6pm when you can enjoy a mammoth jug of mulled wine for 11euros. Fab place with no down sides I can think of!!

Scotty's bar in Tignes Le Lavachet was insane. Very lively, great service, and the bar staff were excellent. Prices aren't too bad, around 2.5 euros for a half pint of beer and 5 euros for a cocktail. We ate at the Bagus cafe one day, excellent food, not too badly priced and I would recommend the Calzone if you're hungry, it’s massive. The ski buses run every 15 mins or so but if you on't mind the walk everything is pretty central. Recommended by the staff in our hotel were Jack’s and the Angel Bar. I only heard good reports about the ski schools there from people I spoke to. However, Tignes is not a beginner resort. They have only a couple of green runs which are pretty steep and there are only 2 beginner chairlifts. There are masses of runs through for the intermediate and advanced skiers and the off-piste is great out there.
