RAMSAU IM ZILLERTAL, AUSTRIA
Ramsau Ski Holidays
The little brother of one of Austria’s most popular ski resorts - Mayrhofen - Ramsau is quiet, more laid back and beautifully picturesque.
Connected to Mayrhofen by both ski bus and train, Ramsau is the perfect place for when partying isn’t at the top of the priority list. And if it is - the train back from Mayrhofen runs until well into the evening, so you’ll have more than enough time to enjoy the Zillertal valley’s famous apres scene and be back at your accommodation for dinner.
While you can’t get on the slopes directly from Ramsau, both the bus and train to Mayrhofen take less than ten minutes. The ski bus is free, while the train is a very small fee. And don’t forget, Ramsau is really well situated to explore the rest of the Zillertal valley, too. Just jump on the bus and discover a new area of the valley every day.
When you get up the mountain at Mayrhofen, you’ll have 136km of piste to explore, while over in the Zillertal Arena, which includes Zell am Ziller and Gerlos, there’s another 143km of piste. In fact, if you’re planning on skiing really hard, you could do the whole Zillertal Valley, giving you a total of 542km of beautiful terrain to test your planks.
Because the majority of people stay in Ramsau for access to Mayrhofen, the resort stats below are for Mayrhofen only.

Ramsau Apres Ski
While Mayrhofen just up the road caters to those looking to party hard after a day on the slopes, Ramsau is all about relaxing in a local bar and enjoying a glass of gluhwein. There are some good late night spots if you know where to look, though. Head to Fuchslöchl for some cheesy Euro music, or RambaZama for live music or to watch the big game.
Other activities in Ramsau
Ramsau really is a serious skier’s paradise, so you won’t find much else there in the way of activities. There are a couple of bowling alleys in the Brückenhof Inn and if you do want to give the slopes a miss for the day, you could always make your way to the leisure centre in Mayrhofen or explore any of the winter walking paths.
