With a variety of ski routes, excellent conditions and around 295km of pistes across the wider Montafon valley ski area, Silvretta Montafon has become a popular spot for wintersports enthusiasts wanting to get in some serious mountain time.
Its fantastic mix of terrain makes it a great option for families, with friendly blues for the kids and those new to winter sports and great reds, blacks, and off piste for the more experienced.
As a resort, Silvretta Montafon ( compromising Schruns, Tschaguns and Golm ) isn't where you go to party all night, but there are some lively places to head to at the end of the day if you do like a dance and a few drinks. For foodies, you've got traditional restaurants serving up mountain classics, while the Markthalle in St Gallenkirch puts an alpine spin on the pop up food market scene.
For extraordinary ski facilities, long lunches, glorious views and wonderful winter weather, Silvretta Montafon is a fantastic destination to visit.
Snow conditions in Silvretta Montafon
The resort is open from December to April every year and can be relied upon for a generous helping of snow, creating excellent conditions for visitors. Its 1,730m altitude and stunning winter climate make it one of Austria's best up-and-coming resorts.
Skiing in Silvretta Montafon
With a wide variety of terrain, there are plenty of runs for skiers to try regardless of whether they are experts, intermediates or beginners. Along with 295km of pistes across the Montafon ski area, there is a snowpark for freestylers and the longest valley descent in Vorarlberg for those looking for a big challenge!
For experienced skiers, the powder runs are always worth hitting up after fresh snowfall, while there's a decent amount of black coverage (and a hairy 80% incline) for those who really want to test their planks.
With a healthy number of easy runs across Silvretta Montafon and neighbouring Golm and with plenty of tutors at hand to deliver training and improve the confidence of skiers or boarders just starting to get into their sport, beginners are very much catered for in the Montafon ski area.
Apres ski, restaurants and other activities in Silvretta Montafon
There are 30 mountain lodges spread across the resort and lots of restaurants and bars situated down the valley. Whether you want to experience a large restaurant or get a bit to eat in one of the cosy, small huts, there is plenty of choice here in Silvretta Montafon.
As well as this, there are some excellent places where you can relax after riding the slopes. Gaschurn is one of the top party destinations in the area and is an amazing place to visit for people wanting to let their hair down.
If you’re looking for something a little more relaxing, you can even take a hike around the resort and enjoy the magical views of Austria’s landscape.
Transfer time in Silvretta Montafon
The nearest airport to Silvretta Montafon is Friedrichshafen, which is around 1 hour and 30 minutes away from the resort, however many of the tour operators fly into Innsbruck, which has a transfer time of around 2 hours 10 minutes.
